Undergraduate Course Load

Hello, I was wondering how important is undergraduate course load in terms of admissions to top tier schools like UC Berkeley, Stanford, and Columbia? I am currently a junior in an Electrical Engineering program and I found out that I have to stay an extra year to finish up my undergrad degree. I planned out that every quarter I would have to take 3 classes with some quarters having 1 or 2 classes OR my other option is to spread them out and have 2 engineering classes each quarter. I fear taking more than 2 engineering classes per quarter because it feels like overkill; I tried that this quarter and I ended up dropping one of them and getting a W on my transcript. After this quarter, I'm taking mostly upper division classes and I wouldn't want to take more than 2 upper division engineering courses in the same quarter.

How much do grad school's care about course load? Would they rather see me taking 3 classes per quarter and getting so so grades As, Bs, Cs? Or would they rather see me taking 2 classes per quarter and getting As/Bs in them?

I think in grad school you usually take two or three graduate level engineering courses at a time which are going to be much much more involved than the classes you are in now. So it may be helpful to try to get used to this. Of course you wont have to spend time on non-engineering courses at the same time.

In any case dont get Cs in engineering courses.
