Undergraduate GPA

I attend Texas A&M University I am a biology major and I just finished my first year with a 2.99 GPA. I feel very down about this, does anyone think it would be possible to get at least a 3.8 by my senior year for med school? Even if I change my major I still have to take the same course load to meet my pre reqs. My gpa is so low because I got a C in chemistry. The rest of my grades were A’s and B’s, im disappointed in myself and don’t know what to do.

Here a calculator that will tell how many A grades you need to earn to raise your GPA to 3.8

It’s not just GPA you need to raise; you also need to raise your sGPA.

what you need to do--

1) identify why you have so much difficulty with chemistry
--do you have a weak math background?
--did you lack appropriate HS preparation in chem?

2) make a plan to remediate any deficiencies you have in chemistry and math

3) make a plan to improve your academic performance in chemistry
--use additional resources beside the textbook to study (Kahn Academy videos, other textbooks, internet resources)
--get tutoring at the academic support center
--attend office hours
--attend all recitations
--form or join a study group
--for ochem, buy a copy of Organic Chemistry as Second Language
--if you are tactile or visual learner, consider buying a Ochem model set

It’s too soon to give up on improving your GPA and applying to medical school.

Also, keep in mind that TX has 3 osteopathic medical schools. Univ of North TX, Sam Houston (public) and Univ of the Incarnate Word (private)

Osteopathic medical schools have slightly lower average GPAs (median 3.6) for admitted students than do allopathic med schools.
