Hey guys,
I'm trying to search for good colleges to apply for, for Undergraduate. I am looking to major in Biochemistry (and possibly American History as a double major) and I was wondering if anybody knows of any good colleges with great Bio and Chem depts? Two criteria that are REALLY important to me are ample research opportunities for undergrad and offering some merit aid. Thanks!

Among LAC’s I always hear that the science facilities and departments are excellent at Grinnell and I think they provide merit aid.

Not sure on aid but Wisconsin is very good in this area. Case Western is supposed to be good with aid and is also strong in this area. Carleton (MN) is very good also. Best of luck!

Definitely Grinnell. Check the Common Data Set (google it with Grinnell) and scroll down to see how your grades, test scores and class rank compare to those of matriculated students. You will need to be in the top 25% of the class to be considered for the Trustee Scholarships.

Anything besides Grinnell? I also want to look at some larger schools. Carleton and Wisconsin do not give merit that I am aware of

The university has a “very high level” of research activity and has a graduate instructional program heavily emphasizing doctorates in STEM fields as well as health and veterinary sciences professional programs. UAB is only one of 108 universities (and the only one of two in Alabama) with the “very high level” research rating in the nation.[13]

The US News & World Report Top United States Universities and Colleges lists UAB a Tier I National University, placing the university in the top quartile of national universities and colleges in the country.[22]
UAB ranks among Top-20 nationally in federal research and development funding and 1st in the state of Alabama, receiving more funding than all other Alabama universities combined. UAB received over $416 million in external grants and contracts in fiscal 2007–2008.[20]
As of 2009, UAB is 4th in the Southeast for NIH research funding behind only Duke University, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and Vanderbilt University.[23
