Undergraduate Marketing Schools? HELP!

Okay so I'm really lost. Here are the business schools I'm thinking of applying to. To be honest, I don't really care about business school rank, but rather marketing program rank. I was just searching for marketing threads and there were some people who basically said majoring in marketing at Wharton and Stern is "a waste of time" and a "joke," while I thought they were the cream of the crop. Please help! Here is my list:

UT-Austin (McCombs) <----already in here pretty much
UPenn (Wharton)
USC (Marshall)
BostonU (School of Mgmt), I would double major in advertising here
NYU (Stern)
WashU (Olin) with double major in a liberal arts field
American (Kogod) with double major in communication

I need some serious analysis here folks! Should I just go to McCombs (it's really cheap in-state)? What are some of the other top marketing undergraduate programs? I really want a great program and good job prospects!

Syracuse (Whitman)

I probably would love the academics at Syracuse because they have one of the best Communications schools in the country as well (I REALLY want to double major in Advertising and Marketing), but I just do NOT want to live there :-/

I concentrated in Marketing at Wharton and NO, it is not a joke.

The people who say it is a joke or a waste of time are the people who are obsessed with Finance and being I-bankers.

If Marketing is what you want to do, Wharton would be a great place to do it. There are great faculty members, a ton of courses, and you'll be involved in a lot of incredible projects in class that will apply directly to what you could be doing in internships and in full-time jobs.

Apply and see where you get in and what type of merit money/financial aid you receive. Then compare the cost to McCombs (excellent school for marketing, by the way). If you'd like to work in Texas after graduation, McCombs would probably give you more of an edge.

Is Stern really a joke for Marketing? If it is, I would definitely drop it from my list. The amount of essays and apps fee is not worth it if majoring in marketing in Stern is a "joke".

I'm not eligible for financial aid, so no matter where I get in or how much merit $ I receive, UT will still be cheaper. I do love Austin and it's only a 3 hour drive from Dallas. I love Texas but chances are I will be working in a coastal city once I graduate, and would like to branch out, so is going to UT going to severely limit my opportunities? My dream job would be to be a major brand manager and travel alot.

Did you overlook that USC has a much better business program with an equally great communication school (Annenberg)? I just noticed that you wanted to work in a coastal city, it seems like USC would be the perfect fit for you.

Yeah I'm applying to USC but I just don't think the cost is worth it over UT...or is it? What do you think? Might get some merit aid but it's unlikely.

To be honest, USC probably won't be worth the extra cost. McCombs is a great business school, you won't see much educational difference between the two.

Some top marketing programs include: U of Penn (Wharton), U of Michigan, U of Texas, U of Cal-Berkeley (Haas), and U of N.C.-Chapel Hill (Kenan-Flagler). My own DD is also going for marketing and is applying to NON of the above. She is going for Emory, BU, UF (free), GWU, Wash U.ST.L, and UMiami (local)...

I'd like to thank everyone for their input. I didn't have school yesterday and had the whole day to evaluate my options.

I'm going to apply to UT-Austin, BU, NYU, WashU, and maybe Penn. Thanks for your help!

it depends. i only took intro marketing and for some reason the class was all math/analytical based and no conceptual work. It was hard. but people say the major classes are easy and not math oriented at all
