Hi everyone! For those of you who are majoring in, or have majored in, neuroscience at UC Davis, what are some of the opportunities (research, internships, clubs, etc.) that you’ve had? And what did you think about your overall experience? I have just been considering applying to UC Davis for neuroscience next year and I just wanted to have an idea of how the program is like. Thanks!

Hi!
I haven’t started yet, but I’m transferring in to the neurobiology program in the fall.

A few things I’ve noticed -
I was looking for a neuroscience program as well, and assumed that the NPB major at davis would be equivalent. Unfortunately, it seems a lot of the neuroscience related/ analytical classes in the NPB major have been canceled in the recent years.

There are a lot of premeds in NPB. If that’s your goal, it’s a fantastic major. If you plan on doing graduate work in neuroscience, I think it will also prepare you well.

As for opportunities, there are quite a few. There’s a center for neuroscience on campus which does fascinating research and accepts undergraduate assistants. They tend to be a little full, but if you work hard at it, I’ve been told you can get a position.

Overall, it’s a good program. Not quite as neuroscience focused as I would have liked, but really nice prep for graduate work and a good environment. I really do love living in Davis, so that makes it waaayyy better.

Good luck!
