does anyone know how easy it is to do research with a professor when you’re an undergraduate here?

and another question…how is life for a premed here? is the enviornment really competitive? and how hard is it to get classes if you’re competing with many others for the same classes?

a lot of ucsd people drop premed sometime cos they dont like it/its not what they expect...

i have the same questions

getting a research position is easy -- this is because there are so many biology, biochemistry, and chemistry labs at UCSD and nearby graduate school (TSRI) -- plus there are these biotech companies around that hire interns ...

ucsd is very well fitted for pre-med students -- there are many opportunities available for you to make yourself a great med schools applicant -- such as abundant research opportunities, four medical centers (two adjacent to campus) for volunteering, various pre-med clubs and advising for pre-meds, a variety of biological classes ... plus it helps being one of many rather than many of few pre-med students because you can always consult your friends on various pre-med issues

there is no competition among ucsd pre-meds per se -- you'll get the classes you want as long as you enroll on time (don't wait until the first enrollment date is way past) -- i know ucsd is now expanding and getting more students -- but when i was there i had no problem getting into any of the classes ... there is a problem with number of seats sometimes, so make sure you arrive early for each class and give yourself ample time in between classes so that it'll be sufficient for you to walk over to your next class
