Undergraduate Research

How do you typically get started with undergraduate research if the university you go to doesn't have a hospital nor a medical school?

Can you still get research experience at a medical college/school, that you aren't enrolled in for their undergraduate school(s), over the summer?

Most students don't do undergraduate research at a med school or hospital so the lack of one isn't a problem.

Like NCG said, a lot of students don't work in medical school labs. Try your biology department, or chemistry or physics. Hell, depending on your interests, you could work with anthropology or psychology faculty.

Yes, I can think of a few medical schools in the Southeast that offer summer research internships, regardless of if you're affiliated with their undergrad institution. One medical school I'm working at this summer doesn't have an associated undergrad. I'm certain there are similar programs across the nation.

Thanks for the information, I really appreciate the responses.

If you don't plan on going to graduate school, please don't do research.

Go volunteer in a hospital or something.

? Research is an important part of many medical careers.

Is it okay if you do research for like agronomy? Or even its "research assistant" where you just basically clean up and prepare after all the grad and professors?

This may be slightly off topic, but I actually do research at a medical school. I'm also a freshmen. The only difference is that the medical school I research at (A&M College of Medicine, TX) is attached to the undergrad I'm also attending. I learned about the opportunity through my premedical advisor. My suggestion would be to go talk to an advisor and see if there are any programs that allow you to research at a medical school near by you. My friend, actually, was accepted into some sort of program that allowed her to research at Southwestern in Dallas.
