Undergraduate summer research opportunities

I am a sophomore EE major @ Hofstra and I am looking for research opportunities in engineering during the summer. It sucks that my current school is very limited in this field, so I was looking into possibly doing it at another school.

I heard that a lot of schools out there offer summer research programs to undergrad students, and they even pay a stipend (I heard it could be around $5,000 for 8-10 weeks). Does anyone here know of any programs, and whether they are worthwhile? Also, I don't care if I have to travel far, I would actually rather get off Long Island.

google for REU programs. there are plenty. not sure about the deadlines, but they're coming up soon i think.

I did the National Institute of Technology Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship (SURF) program. Just google NIST SURF and you'll find it.
