Hey guys! Just wondering, how is Brown’s theater department? I don’t plan to major but if I would love to concentrate or simply take classes in acting. Right now, I’m just scoping out the individual theater departments in all the Ivy Leagues and comparing them.

Brown and Yale are known to have the strongest undergraduate theatre programs in the Ivy League. Be sure to check both of them out if that's truly a big concern for you. Be sure to check out this site for more information on Brown's department.

New Front Page

Wow, that is a really poorly designed page. :(

Son is a theater concentrator and is very happy at Brown. The classes are a little more theoretical than hands on. However, there are many that do offer a more hands on approach. In addition, there are tons of theater opportunities at Brown- a capella groups, Brown Brokers where students write their own musicals, Musical Forum where students put on a known musical of their choice (This past semester was Full Monty, Godspell was done in the Fall), Shakespeare shows, and many more department productions (City of Angels was put on by the dept this past semester). There are lots of comedy groups, dance organizations/shows etc as well. So, even if you just want to do it for your own interest, there are lots of opportunities to keep you busy. If you have any specific questions, PM me

Thanks that helps! Hope your son's doing well.

Thanks-he is workinig for the producer of the Tony awards for the summer and is at the Tony's right now-5th row behind Marissa Tomei!!!

fyi, at Brown, majors are called "concentrations", and we have no minors
