During college application season I often felt incredibly inferior to the rest of the people on CollegeConfidential because of their astronomical GPAs and test scores. It seems like everyone here has a 4.0 and it really is pretty daunting, especially when it comes to schools with unpredictable admissions.

Even though USC's average GPA is 3.8, that thread showed me that even people who fall under the average have something that gives them a chance in the admissions process. I think that next year's NYU applicants will appreciate something like that too. :)

So, here is an "average" accepted applicant at NYU:

[ul]
[] Average High School GPA (Unweighted): 3.63
[] SAT Critical Reading Score Range (middle 50%): 630 - 730
[] SAT Math Score Range (middle 50%): 650 - 750
[] ACT Score Range (middle 50%): 29 - 31
[/ul]

If you fall below those cutoffs and still made it in, post here! I'll start:

[ul]
[] Applied to: Tisch School of the Arts (Cinema Studies)
[] UW GPA: 3.3/W GPA: 3.8
[] SAT: 2090 (CR: 710, M: 650, W: 730)
[] ACT: 31
[li] Strengths/why you think you got in: my film portfolio, essays, test scores, ECs dedicated to Theatre, and letters of recommendation.[/li][/ul]

Is it really necessary to single out “underqualified” people? You got into NYU, isn’t that all that matters? Seems silly to separate it out from “qualified” accepted students.

If you read the first part of my post, I did it for next year’s applicants. Trust me, it really helps to know that someone else got in who doesn’t have a 4.0.

Well i got into Steinhardt for violin performance with a 570 in the math section for my SAT. That being said I have a 3.78 unweighted GPA, I got 720 on critical reading and 690. I’m just not great at math…but it should give hope to those who didn’t have all perfect scores! Good luck to everyone still waiting :)

I think it’s very much dependent on the school you’re applying to.

Stern is undoubtedly going to be harder than CAS or LSP(?).

But for the record, dreamupsided0wn, you seem to be a qualified applicant with those scores. My scores are around the same, and I was accepted to NYU - and it’s presently my top choice as well…

Applied to: Tisch School of the Arts (Dramatic Writing)

GPA: 3.5

SAT: 1800 (CR: 610, M: 610, W: 580)

ACT: Didn’t take it

Strengths/why you think you got in: It definitely wasn’t because of my strong grades and resume! ;)

It seems that most art departments at prestigious schools have admitted students with lower SAT scores and GPA’s than they would usually take in their CLAS or Business colleges within the school.

I know a lot of people who have been admitted to the art dept’s at UCLA, USC and NYU with lower GPA’s and SAT scores than others who have gotten rejected when applying to CLAS or for other majors.

Sup guys…I seem to have also flown under the radar…

Unweighted GPA: 3.3 I dont even do homework, I just took a bunch of AP’s and let them bounce my GPA
SAT: 2220 (I know, I’m not even asian.) 800 CR. I like to read erotic porn.
SAT II: English: 700 (was feeling **** that morning), Math I: 650, US History: 730

I’m a lazy ****er, I smoke(d) weed, I get drunk on the weekends, do bare minimum for NHS, and quit out of varsity sports after freshman year.

I wrote my commonapp essay in 20 minutes (lol), and filled out the NYU supplement the day before deadline, and didn’t really even give a **** (I know, **** me, right?). I just filled out tons of BS about how awesome NYC is and blah blah blah, I’ve never even been to NYC. Crazyyyy~~~

Middle class white guy as well. What are the odds?

Can’t wait to **** **** up if I decide to go to NYU.

Piece of advice: limit the weed and drinking to the weekends my man cuz ur gonna get r@ped at Stern doin that. Them asians will eat u alive. lol GL. Of course I dont mean this in the literal sense but in terms of grades.
