Underrated Colleges

What are some colleges that you guys think are underrated and deserve more credit?

rutgers

I think that this college especially (though it applies pretty much anywhere) it’s what you make of it. plus it has the best philosophy department in the country

UT Austin. It’s not even mentioned among top schools because of its #40 rank or so. But it could easily be in the 20s if it weren’t such a huge school. It’s top notch for engineering, business, and law. Their Plan II program puts you in with a pool of extremely intelligent folks. Personally I think it’s an amazing backup for any top notch student in Texas because of its automatic top 8% admit rule.

Harvard.

Lol jk.

But seriously, most liberal arts schools are underrated… People have told me I shouldn’t even bother applying to Williams/Amherst/Wesleyan because ‘they’re not even known enough’.

-.-

I’d rather go to Wesleyan than most of the ivy leagues -.-

harvey mudd college and caltech are the two biggest in my eyes

Cal Tech? How is the #5 rated school in the country underrated? According to usnews it rates higer than MIT, Stanford, and most of the ivy league schools.

@bleach: It’s also ranked better than more than half (if not most) the Ivies in Computer Science.

^I thought of that, but isn’t the actual quality of education the most important thing?

Rice.

10char

Harvey Mudd College. : )

UVA for sure

I agree with CalTech being underrated to the general public. Sure, it’s one of top ten schools in the country, but it is not as well known as the Ivy’s or MIT. I live in California, and not many people really recognize that it’s a great school, or that it even exists.

LAC’s are definitely underrated too unfortunately.

What do you guys think about UNC?

Cal Poly SLO

Cooper union

I would say most state schools.

They’re cheap and have a pretty good education :)

The University of Vermont

UVA definitely, especially the E school there

I want to bring up my school (Appalachian State) obviously, since it isn’t famous except for beating Michigan.

Boone is often voted one of the best college towns and best small towns. Academically the school has skyrocketed in terms of the Academic caliber of accepted students (acceptance rates are a bit inflated because they’ve expanded their programs, but if you look stats have gone way up) Awesome programs in Business, Music and Education, cutting edge in the state for Environmental Science. And I don’t even have to mention a beautifully-located campus and some kick-a sports

Not trying to advertise, since it’s obviously below most CC user’s “level,” I’m just saying it should get some appreciation.

Definitely Washington University in St. Louis. Top 15 college yet no one has heard of it.
