My son is very keen to apply to Wharton this year , any tips ,advice or help welcome
Currently in grade 12 in India , academically very good , writing 3 AP’s , Act score 31 , giving again act , in cbse syllabus in India have taken subj like Eco, higher
maths, commerce& business, accounts , English
Thanks in advance
He needs to do well on all 3 APs (4 or 5). He also needs a higher ACT, because 31 is low for Wharton. Take SAT Math Level 2 test. Being from India will help you, but don’t expect financial aid. His essays need to be business focussed, too. Good luck.
Thanx a ton !!! That was really helpful.
Hi just wanted to know about wharton essays
Why would being from India help the OP?
Exactly. Plus being in CBSE board, APs will have almost no weightage to his application. And 31 is definitely not ‘too low’. There are no set scores required for Wharton
There is no score required but higher would help. I don’t think the essays have to be business focused but I do think you need to show problem solving ability. My best Wharton advice is to learn about the program and be sure that what you write shows why their unique and wonderful program fits your needs and ofcourse why you fit theirs.
I got accepted to Wharton, so here are a few tips from what I’ve learned. You need high test scores, especially coming from India, which has some of the highest-scoring students in the world applying to US colleges. A 31 on the ACT is probably not going to be enough, unless he has amazing extracurriculars when compared to other top applicants. Sending AP scores (4s or 5s) won’t hurt, since the admissions officers will get a perspective into how well he knows certain subject areas and whether he’s qualified in those areas. At the very least sending such scores won’t hurt.
jt1995 said that essays need to be business-focused, but I disagree. I think that what they need to show is WHY your son wants to go to Wharton, and that doesn’t need to involve business. My essays had nothing to do with business, and instead focused on my various experiences in leading people and organizations, and how those experiences shaped me and my passions. Does it help to have some sort of business background? Of course, but it’s in no way mandatory. The most important thing is to demonstrate determination, intelligence and a love for what you do and having valid reasons for wanting to attend Wharton.
