Understanding chemistry

Chemistry class had been fine... up until now. It's insanely confusing to me, and nothing seems to make sense. Any tips for understanding the material? Thanks.

What are you learning about?

A lot of stuff about bonding.

Like, orgo? Or ionic and covalent?

Both.

I had a really good teacher for chemistry sophomore year. Then I took AP Chemistry as a junior with a STUPID teacher who didn't know what he was doing. Ended up wasting a year of my life taking a class I didn't learn ANYTHING in. Long story short, make sure you take classes with good teachers. Oh and buy prep books if needed.

I don't understand... doesn't most of the chemistry curriculum contain bonding?

Haha chem has been so easy this whole semester for me, but not when I'm cramming for tomorrow's final, every answer i get seems to be wrong.

Hopefully i exhaust my store of wrong answers now and not tomorrow.

OP: If your teacher is good, try to talk to him/her about it. I'm sure he/she will be willing to help you. If it's the teacher that's the problem, perhaps a tutor or some prep books would be the way to go.

Some is chemistry is very math based, which is good for some people, and other parts of it are conceptual. For conceptual stuff, you really should ask your teacher for help (assuming it's not your teacher who's screwing you over in the first place) or get a prep book. They're usually easier to use than textbooks. I'd recommend PR or Barrons.

If you're learning about things like hybridization, VSEPR, and Lewis structures, then you can PM me if you need help on anything specific. I'm good with that stuff.
