Understanding college cost

The COA at my college is $21,222 ,the median grant is $13,659, estimated net cost $0-15127, estimated net cost with self help is $0-15027 and Estimated grant and/or scholarship assistance is $6095-$21222/year can someone help me understand this?

We cannot help you because we know nothing about YOUR financial situation. The median grant is irrelevant- Bill Gates’ kid is not getting a penny in need based aid, so the median has no bearing on a particular family’s situation.

Can YOU afford what the net price calculator of this college is spitting out as YOUR costs? That’s the only thing that matters.

That’s the sticker price before any aid is applied. As for the rest, it does not matter. What does matter is how much the college will cost you. Run the Net Price Calculator for your situation.

What was your FAFSA EFC? On a previous thread, you said it was $0. Is that the case?

You also said your mom could pay $18,000 a year for you to attend college…but that she was not your custodial parent. Is that still true?

EFC is 106

My school told me to do the net cost calculator to see the possible amount of aid I will receive

I’m eligible for 6,500 in loans 5,945 pell grant and theres other grants in texas that FAFSA have like FSEOG

well…then you know you will get $12,500 in Pell plus Direct Loans. Right?

FSEOG is not a guaranteed award. These monies are a limited pool per college campus and are usually awarded on a first applied first serve basis…so when did you complete your FAFSA?

What Texas grants for low income students are you eligible for…and guaranteed to receive?

If your mom is still going to pay $18,000 a year…you are all set, right?

I completed my fafsa the first day it opened and i did it before my school priority date

TPEG and FSEOG

My school also have scholarships but want us to tell us about our financial need .

When you get accepted, you will receive your need based and merit financial aid packages…before you need to make a matriculation decision.

Just be patient and wait and see.

FSEOG is not a Texas grant. It’s a fed grand, and not assured.

TPEG sounds like a texas grant.

This is for all 3 schools I’m looking at.

These are net price calculator results that clearly are ESTIMATES and with ranges.

The only way you will know your real financial aid award, and net costs…apply, and wait for the award to come.

These schools don’t guarantee anything…which is why you are seeing ranges. Some kids get these grants…and some don’t. Some get larger grants and some get smaller grants.

But you will get the Pell…and the $5500 Direct Loan. From all of these colleges. Beyond that…it’s a guess.

As we explained in your other financial aid threads… as a transfer student with a $0 EFC you’re eligible for the ~$6k/year Pell Grant. You can also take the ~$6500/year federal student loan. Your GPA is too low to receive merit aid (transfers don’t generally get much anyway) so, unfortunately, it doesn’t look like you can afford to live on campus. However, the ~$11k you are eligible for looks like it would cover the tuition at the University of Houston. A 20 minute commute is very reasonable. Did you apply there?

Can you qualify for Aggie Assurance?

My gpa is a 3.2 My efc is 106. I also turned in my FAFSA before the priority date I’ll just wait until the financial aid package come cause you never know. My school also give institutional grants and there are some Texas grants. My friends parents make more than mine and FAFSA gave them 19,000 grants plus the federal student loan and got a refund their parents had to pay zero out of pocket but we will see.

Yes

FAFSA is an application. Pell grant is ~$6000 and the loans are also based on the fAFSA. If your friend got $19000 in grants, they came through the school.
