Understanding Divisional Studies

I just got my freshman registration packet today and as I was thinking about what classes I wanted to take, I didn’t really understand how the divisional studies fits in. For one thing, I want to be a molecular biology concentrator, which falls in the Natural Sciences Division, but a requirement for that is to take two semesters of math which falls under the Mathematics Division. Does that math requirement now fulfill my math division courses or do I have to take another two courses of math?? I would think the former, right?? Thanks.

BTW, as I was looking over my major requirements, how on earth does anyone double major??? I will barely fit in the requirements for one major in four years!!

Plus, if I got a 4 on the AP US History, would this get me out of any courses in the Social Science Division??

I'm pretty sure that the two math courses should count toward both your concentration requirement and divisional studies, but I would check with your advisor. I believe that CAS's records office put down MA116 as satisfying both my Divisional Requirement and my Psych Stats requirement, although I'm not 100% sure (I don't think I have access to the studentlink anymore to check).

Yes, if you have a high enough score on AP US History (I believe a 4 or 5, you should check), you get credit for two history courses, satisfying your social science requirement.

Thanks ryanbis...and another question, for biology if I got a 4 (in CAS), does this mean that I have gotten out of all bio courses 105, 107, and 108?? it's that "or" word they use that I don't understand....
here's the site...it's on page 2..... http://www.bu.edu/admissions/pdfs/advanced_credit_guide.pdf

You get 4 credits for either BI107 or BI108 (I'm guessing it's your choice).

So if my major requires BI 108, then I passed out of it and can move on to a higher level?? The freshman registration packet doesn't even mention a class higher than that one, though...

You should really talk to an advisor in the department (I'm sure they'll be available during orientation)--I'm not familiar with the course structure. I'm guessing that you get credit for either 107 or 108 and you have to take the one that you didn't get credit for.

okay, that makes sense...I will definitely talk with my advisor. Thanks so much for your help!!
