Understanding my sat score

I need help understanding why some schools don't consider the writing part on the sat score.

During the month of April and June I took my sat .. Although the second time around my score improved.. And I was happy

My test reads
500 reading
480 Math
530 Writing
Essay 8

Does this make my score 1500
Or do I consider the reading and math score combined?

I am lost Help

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated

My current GPA 3.6

Your reading and math score is 980 out of 1600. Your total score is 1510 out of 2400.

…just add your scores. 1510. 980 if you exclude writing.

Some schools don’t consider writing because either the writing section is still fairly new, or that the schools already have some idea about your writing ability through your essays and such. There could be other reasons too, but most schools now consider all three sections.
