Understanding the SAT Writing Test

I am new to the SAT Writing Test and want to understand the relative importance of its components. Please help me understand:

1) I understand there are two parts, an essay and a multi choice section. What are the relative weights of each in the total 800 point total score? For example, is the essay 50% of the total score, multi choice 50%?

2) I understand the writing score to be based on a 0 - 6 scale, with '6' being the highest score. What does a '5' equate to as far as a part of the 800 point total? In other words, if the essay is 50% of the total possible 800 point highest score, i.e., it can be as high as 400 points of the total 800, and a '6' would then equate to 400 points, what does a '5' equate to point-wise?

God bless,

From my D's score report it says that the essay counts for about 30% of the score and the multiple choice counts for 70%. The essay is graded by two people and the scores are added together so the score is out of 12. In my D's case she took it twice and scored a 660 the first time and a 780 the second time. The first time she got 3 questions wrong on the multiple choice and received a 3+3=6 on the essay. The second time she got 1 question wrong on the multiple choice and scored a 5 + 5 = 10 on the essay. What really increased her score the second time was studying the tips given on CC for writing the essay. Her improved essay score really boosted her overall score the second time. I'm not sure how the essay score is factored into the overall score. Hope this helps.
