I am an undocumented citizen in New Jersey, I have been living here for 14 years, I am 16 now. I want to apply to NYU, do they give any sort of aid to undocumented citizens?
Currently NYU only offers aid for undocumented students from New York
NYU:
If you are applying for admission as an undocumented* undergraduate student, you may be eligible for NYU scholarship funds.
NYU has been supportive of the Dream Act at the state and national level; we’re sympathetic to the circumstances and difficulties undocumented students face. During the spring 2014 semester, a group of NYU students who are passionate about this issue – they call themselves the DREAM Team – challenged the University to do better by undocumented students.
And so, NYU is pleased to launch a pilot program this year that offers institutional scholarship aid to eligible undocumented students from New York on par with what is offered to U.S. students. We believe NYU offers a great education and the intent of this pilot is to offer additional financial support to help enable eligible undocumented men and women from New York to attend NYU.
Please note that additional information for eligibility is required for consideration, including:
The student applicant’s** confirmation of residence within the state of New York for the previous three calendar years (January 2014 to January 2017).**
Examples of Documentation: student or parent copies of utility bills, housing lease, notarized statement reflecting a New York state address in all three years.
[c]Confirmation of the student applicant’s attendance at a high school within the state of New York for the prior three calendar years (January 2014 to January 2017) or, if residence is in New York but the student attended high school in a different state, confirmation of high school attendance in the U.S.**
Example of Documentation: official high school transcript.
**The student applicant must have a valid Social Security Number, **OR the student applicant or student applicant’s parent(s) must have an official, valid U.S. Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN). Please see the IRS website for more information about the ITIN.
Undocumented Students
On face it looks like institutional aid will only be available to undocumented students from NY who also have DACA.
As an additional FYI…NYU is VERY expensive and does not guarantee to meet full need for all accepted students. If you need substantial financial aid to attend college, I would suggest that you broaden your search.
I wont be applying then, thanks for the info.
