My D got a 780 on the Math II SAT subject test, but only a 640 on the Chemistry test. She is applying ED to Washington University in Engineering. The school recommends but does not require SAT II's. Other relevant test scores are as follows:

32 - ACT Composite (with a 36 in Math and a 32 in Science)
5 - BC Cal. AP
4 - Chemistry AP
5 - U.S. History AP

Will the 640 in Chemistry hurt her chances in Engineering such that we should not submit any of the SAT II scores? It's too late to retake the Chemistry since she would have to study a lot to brush up and doesn't have the time now.

Much the way that 1 score way above a person's norm will not overly sway a school, I doubt that 1 score seemingly below your D's norm will really hurt her especially if the school does not require SAT IIs. From many info session, the line on the SAT IIs is that they generally will only help and not hurt. I believe the admiss. counselors.

I think it's more dangerous to not follow a college's suggestions. I have always been taught to view suggestions as, for all intents and purposes, demands stated more nicely. You can get in without them, but it's harder.
