My D got a 780 on her Math II SAT subject test, but only a 640 on the Chemistry. She is applying ED to Wash U in engineering. Her other relevant stats are:

GPA/Rank UW 3.9 W 4.38 22/790 (top 3%)

ACT 32 (36 in Math and 32 in Science)

BC Calc. AP: 5
Chem. AP: 4
US Hist. AP : 5

She can't retake the Chemistry SAT II at this point, as it would require a lot of studying to brush up and try to improve her score, and she doesn't have time. Will the Chemistry score hurt her such that we should not submit any SAT II's? They are recommended, but not required at Wash U. If she were apply to CAS, I wouldn't worry about it, but I'm concerned that in Engineering, the score might adversely affect her chances.

What was her grade in AP Chem class? According to the people I have spoken with, a school cannot reject you for a score that is not "required"...Well, yea I know, I'm being a little naive, but it does make some sense.....What if she didn't send any SATII's? Could they reject for that? Obviously not, since they are not required, but you never know what they will do......

BTW, the 36 in ACT math makes it unnecessary to really try to improve her chances with the 780 in math IIC

Rodney - Her semester grades in AP Chem were A and A-.

In response to VeryHappy -- she took Physics as a sophomore and did not take Physics AP after that, so her chances of doing well on the Physics subject test are not great.

Perhaps she took the ACT and not the SAT I, but if you report SATs, i believe they all go at the same time. They do not let you pick and choose which to send or not. And a 640 is a good score. Look at the percentiles. A chem 640 won't be that much lower than a 780 Math II on a percentile basis.
