Unexpected Acceptances

Okay, so my overall average is that competitive, but high enough for a chance at most of the competitive universities I heard. I do have a few things that stand out, but I'm not sure if it'll be enough. Any unexpected acceptance success story here?

Almost everyone you find on here thinks his or her acceptance was unexpected. Even those with serious hooks always have doubts.

Judge for yourself which acceptances were "unexpected"

I suppose mine was unexpected, considering how shocked (and amazingly happy I was) to see the big envelope.

I was 1530/800/790/790 ranked #2/490, okay EC's (lots of activism & debate: JSA, voter reg., debate team, various clubs), my essays seem kind of cheesy and cliched now, but my rec's were good.

mine was SO unexpected...
1420/780/720/680, no rankings in our school, alright activities (debate, peace conferences, yearbook stuff, global concerns) but no awards etc. was just a normal good student that was pretyt involved

^but r u from cali

mine was definitely unexpected as well. after rejections from HYP (yale was my first choice... so i was totally bummed out), i REALLY didn't expect to get into stanford.

here's part of what i wrote in the official results thread:

Your thoughts on your decision: AHHHHH! WLEKRJLAKWRJLVJAKWR! I CAN'T BELIEVE I GOT IN! someone punch me in the face, please!
Any other comments: I was rejected from HYP... so i thought i didn't even stand a chance. i guess stanford likes well-rounded asian girls(?) haha, i really don't know.

BTW, is it an advantage or disadvantage if I am applying from NYC?

I would think so. NYC and Long Island are such competitive areas for admission since so many kids apply. This year I have heard of many many applicants around me in my school and nearby who were rejected from all the top schools. These regions are 2 of the toughest if not the toughest in the United States. I have heard that from Yale and Stanford admissions officers when I went to their admit weekends.

the witzness - no i'm am international student (from singapore)
