unexpected fafsa question

Hi,
My parents just filled out the fafsa and the EFC note at the end showed a very strange figure of ~$70,000... uh.. what? I know my family's finances, and if that means per year, it is absolutely ridiculous -- incredibly so. Can anyone shed some light on this?

It is per year. Your parents may have assets that you aren't aware of. Or they may have assets in your name. The first time we did the FAFSA our EFC was $65K. So, yeah, it does happen, even if you don't feel like you're really loaded!

Of course, double and triple check to make sure there are no errors on what you submitted!

C, weenie is right, please go over it carefully and make sure there are no errors anywhere....

Try plugging the income numbers into the calculator at FinAid-- it will not only confirm the EFC, but tell you where it's coming from in the formula.
