Ok I go to this high school where the Biology teacher thinks that an A- is the best he'll give out. My friend goes to a school across town and he gets an A+ while I get a B+. I know way more biology than he does. I was quizzing him and he didn't know anything! How will colleges find out that I did good in my class.

they won't, unfortunately it sucks... we all know how it feels on cc... no use in complaining to the teacher, cuz they always think they're right...

yea, that sucks; nothing you can do..I know EXACTLY what you mean, too.

Last year, I took honors english. I had the hardest teacher in the entire school and ended up with a C...He taught us college-level grammar, and we had to read like 30 books on our own, while doing poetry/other off-curriculum stuff...The stupid thing is that other kids who did less work than me and who got a worse grade on the final (i got a 98% on the final exam) got A+ just because they had an easier teacher...I'm just glad it was freshman year, so it won't be weighted as much as sophomore/juniorr years...

Well, anyways, yea it sucks...

take AP/SAT II Bio to prove that your B+ is worth a lot.

any one else?

make friends with your guidance counselor and have him write it down somewhere

This is why college admission requirements include more than just GPA. An 'A' at one hs is not the same as an 'A' in another hs.

What you are describing is a term used on CC called grade inflation. Finding that school, course or teacher who issued the easy 'A' vs others that make you work your butt off for an A- or a 'B!'

FlatulentPenguin ..i know what u mean. I had a HORRIFIC biology teacher who taught AP's and thought that his reg. bio class was an advanced class. I ended up with a 88.8%. If we compared my grade to a guy who goes to a easy high school, my B would look better. Like, i think my pal in Beverly HIlls high school says that there is tons of grade deflation there and lets say he get a B+ in English. That B+ would look better than a guy from a high school that has classes with tons of A's given out. Take the SAT II Bio and show the colleges your reg. bio class was more like a AP bio.

Colleges will totally look at your school and how you compare to the rest of your student body. Your grades should reflect the rankings. Schools are also known to run background checks on the ranking of the school, and how good the school performs. This means your school should perform better during standards testing, giving you a slighter edge in that regard.

That's what APs and SAT IIs are for. If you get a 780 on your SAT II Biology test and a 4 or a 5 on your AP Biology exam, the University will know you had a tough teach in High School and that your B+ is more like an A.
