Unfair transcript evaluation warning!

Don't use Educational Credential Evaluators(ECE). I had them evaluate my transcript since I didn't have the money to pay WES at the time. My evaluation came back and I had a 1.9 GPA. I then submitted one to WES and got it back 2.9 GPA. ECE rips you off! I' just warning everybody not to use them. You're evaluation will be guaranteed unfair! I also sent an e-mail to NACES with a complaint. Save yourself the problems and pay more for WES.

Now anybody else had the same problems?

What are these things?

I didn’t even translate it to a GPA…? But my transcripts are ridiculous anyway!

I used neither. Worked out fine. In my opinion WES is as much as a rip-off as is ECE.

WES provides a much-needed service to organizations and employers who do not have much experience with foreign credentials.

That being said, most colleges do not ask for evaluations. I would advise international applicants to save their money unless one of the colleges they are applying to explicitly asks for an evaluation.

that too. But sadly I had two colleges requesting evaluations. I should have chosen WES.

You may not want to disclose that much information on a public forum, but may I ask which colleges requested the evaluation?

I think GaTech necessarily requires a WES evaluation.

no problem. Emerson College and Florida State University

_Silence, may I ask which company you used then? I need evaluations too and from what I’ve been reading here and everywhere else online I do NOT want to go with neither ECE nor WES.

I translated my transcript myself, included the grade-conversion scale I used and got my counselor to sign it and the school to put their seal on it. I also asked my school to seal the envelope. Every College I applied to accepted the transcript.

What kind of final results do you get? I mean, are they grades, or percentage?

They were grades.

Percentages are fairly easy to convert, but my country doesn’t really use that.

My country uses this system:
A-4.0
B-3.5
and so on…

maybe you could do something like _Silence did with the conversion table I have listed above…

any one know how german students should convert their grades? or if this is even necessary?

Convert the grades, and attach the conversion table to the transcript. I based the conversion on a table I found on the WES website.

actually ECE shows 2 different GPAs, if you had any failures or multiple attempts, they will include those in the normal GPA, but they also provide ‘best result’ GPA. Also, every place is liable to use different grading scales. You should contact them if you think it was done incorrectly, though, sometimes there are updates that may not be reflected in a particular evaluation report.

Can I ask a question?
How does grade conversion work?
If I did the IGCSE from yr 8 to yr11 and I’m interested in applying to Brown, will I have to send my raw grades (unconverted) or would I have to convert them myself and indicate that I Was in the british system…?
It would be really great if someone could help me on this…

You do not need to submit any grades for conversion. The British education system is relatively well-known and the admissions officers will know how to evaluate such grades.
