Thank you for the information!
Accepted! Life Sciences and Ag, undeclared, with a 10K scholarship.
3.6/4.0 with a large upward trend.
Submitted a 1260. I later took the December SAT and scored much higher, but it was a little too late to submit the higher score.
Competitive NE Public HS (OOS).
Great start for my college decisions. UNH was a safety (according to my schoolās Naviance), but I really only have good things to say about UNH. The money was nice, too.
Congrats! Good luck with your other applications, but definitely keep UNHās COLSA in the mix. They are so well respected and have amazing facilities and resources for undergrads to get involved in research.
Does anyone know what it means to apply to two majors (first and second choices) within different UNH colleges and then be accepted undeclared to the third college (COLA)?
UVM hasnāt cut their geology department. There was talk a year or so ago about UVM eliminating a few majors in the college of arts and sciences. As of now the geology major is till intact. There are other options at UVM if this does happen. The Environmental Science major is an option.and you can choose from the College of Arts & Sciences [CAS], College of Agriculture & Life Sciences [CALS] or Rubenstein School of Environment & Natural Resources [RSENR]). Environmental Geology is available as a concentration or focus also

Did a quick fact checkāI see what you mean. However, Iād still be worried about the budget cuts to the department (and the fact that the department was put on the chopping block only a year ago).
Weāve spoken to numerous people at UVM regarding this issue. We are comfortable with the procedure if need to move to another major within UVM. With that said, UVM is a wonderful school and I would send my daughter but I donāt think it is where she will pick.
Letās move the conversation back to UNH
Thanks
Hi, That seems odd unless that is college they are putting undecided under temporarily.
Just reach out to admissions and ask them. The first two majors may have been very competitive with applications in the EA round. They may reserve a number of spots for in-state, but that is not clear. Let them know the major that is of most interest (it does change sometimes from the initial application.) By later in the spring there may be space in that major.
Seconding the comment by @stem_2022.
I had Community and Env. Planning as my first choice major, yet I was admitted undeclared. I was surprised, especially because I figured it probably wasnāt the most competitive/space-limited major. Plus, I wouldāve gotten the NE Tuition Breakānow, if I end up committing to UNH, Iāll be paying a little more for at least the first semester.
Iām wondering if there were other NE students applying for Env Planning, or if the College of LSA prefers to have a certain amount of undeclared students, or if my AO thought Iād be a ābetter fitā for another program.
Truth be told, the tuition break at UNH is a smaller discount than at schools like UMASS and UVM, so Iāll be OK. I think Iām just worried that Iāll get pigeonholed into a less-competitive program that I donāt want to pursue.
Definitely reach out and ask these questions before committing. I seem to remember hearing about kids moving into their first choice major after their initial acceptance when we were at orientation last June. So there is movement possible in the coming months. It is worth it to advocate for yourself and especially for a program that is of significant interest to you and that is part of a state consortium discount.
Good luck!
We have been told that anything below B+ even in one math class (even itās AP Calculus in a competitive school) is an automatic disqualification from UNHās College of Engineering and College of Business. 800 SAT/Math and Math Olympics donāt overwrite a single B. Itās a good thing that hardcore STEM schools such as WPI and RPI donāt have this policy. A highly competitive College of Computer Sciences at UMass Amherst does not seem to have it either.
Not sure how accurate that is unless things have changed. My son (graduated HS class of 2018) was admitted to UNH engineering and definitely had some Bs and B+ in math and science classes.
Yes, that explanation certainly looks suspicious to me. If they send every qualified candidate who got a B for math to COLA, then COLA would just balloon. Itās also unfair to students who want to be in COLA.
Is anyone else still waiting to hear on EA for their kids? Mine applied 10/30 but hasnāt heard. Thanks
My son heard yesterday. It looks like they come out as they are ready. He received a packet in the mail. Checked his portal this morning and the decision was there, but he never received an email so I donāt know when the portal was updated.
good to know. We had same thing with PennStateā¦ nothing on email but got snail mail. will keep eye out for that. thanks and congrats to son!
Thank you. Maybe check the portal even if an email hasnāt come. I hope itās any day now!
I have a scholarship award in my Manchester portal but still āUnder Reviewā for both Manchester and Main Campus. Applied 11/11, documents received 11/16.
My daughter hasnāt heard and applied in October. I was kind of surprised.
