My daughter is trying to decide which school to attend next fall. Both schools appear to have very good environmental science programs but it seems to us like UVM may have the advantage. Would people here agree that UVM may have a better environmental science department? Burlington seems to have much more to offer than Durham also. Are people at UVM happier with their college experience than their counterparts at UNH? What makes the decision harder for her is that after scholarships are factored in, UNH will be about $10,000 less per year and she would rather not spend the extra money for schools and programs that appear to be very similar? Any thoughts comparing these 2 schools?

My son was admitted to both schools (we live in NH) and is interested in music, jazz in particular. We attended both schools' Admitted Students' Day and after attending UNH's it looked like a done deal. After all, I'm a UNH alum as are both his grandfathers. His comment on the ride home was "Well they set the bar pretty high for UVM." My assumption was that the trip to Burlington was simply a formality but I was wrong. With no offense to my almer mater,UVM put on a much better program and stole the kid away. I'll go into further details in a private message if you like but I'd urge you to visit both and research the respective departments. UVM just seemed like a better fit and I'm not unhappy about it. By the way, letting kids get their UVM ID on that day even if they haven't committed is a good marketing ploy.
