It’s not that the school is too big or too small or anything like that, I’m just not happy here socially. And to be honest, it would be nice to be at a school within driving distance to my home. The school is fine and all, but since I don’t love it, I would like to be at an even more prestigious university and at least have the chance of being more happy there. I don’t really think this would sound great in the transfer essay so I’m not sure what to write. Thanks for the help!
Whatever you do, don’t mention prestige in your essay. Write an essay about why you would be a good fit for the school. Mention that your old school was not the right fit for you, but not about what your past school did wrong or what you didn’t like about it. Just say that you really didn’t find your niche or that they don’t offer something at your old school.
Academic reasons are the best reasons for transfer.
Thanks for the response guys. But I’m talking about the common app essay that asks the general reason for wanting to transfer. Do I need to say that my current school does not offer XYZ academic opportunity?

It’s important to say your current school does not offer the academic subjects you are interested in WITHOUT badmouthing the school. It’s even more important to state what the transfer schools offer, as the yale quote states,
