I can't decide between the University of Delaware and James Madison Uni. I don't know what I want to major in. Which would be the better choice for overall academics/experience?

University Of Delaware

My daughter just faced the same decision. My husband and I both graduated from the University of Delaware and loved it. Our daughter was debating between Uof D and James Madison.

However, we only live about 15 minutes from UD (out-of-state, just over the state line). In the end, she chose JMU because UD was just too close to home for her. We agreed that she would be better off at JMU where she could become more independent and experience a new area.

I love both campuses-they actually seem very similar to me. We are confident that our daughter will be extremely happy at JMU. However, she said that if we had lived further away from UD, she probably would have chosen that. You have two wonderful choices, so you can’t really go wrong. Visit both and decide where you can imagine yourself living for four years.

Good luck!

Thanks for the input. That helps!

I don’t know about JMU, but the U of D is in the middle of nowhere. There are some cool things close by and Newark isn’t bad, but you’ll be sorely bored without a car. Take my word for it. I must live somewhere near BlueHen89, since I live right next to the U of D as well.

University Of Delaware is very close to Baltimore and DC, James Madison is a little farther I think from DC

yeah that’s where I’m stuck because I feel like both schools are in the middle of nowhere, so it’s hard to decide.

well think about it, Delaware is very close to both Baltimore, DC and Philly, JMU is close to Shenendoah National Park and is 2-3 hrs from DC

I think Delaware is least “in the middle of nowhere”

^ yeah that’s true

Why would anyone want to go to Just Missed UVa?!

honestly im a student at U of D right now, kinda intoxicated but that means the most honesty. JMU is a much better choice, im considering transferring right now. The parties at UD suck after that whole thing last year about the kid dieing. They have starting taking everything way too serious. It doesn’t matter what each place is by because as a freshy you arent gonna be exploring the outside area your campus bound or going home every weekend. Also the work load is intense at UD my dorm (lane hall) is filled with business majors, fashion majors, nutrition majors, and engineering majors. (like myself) As an engineer you will have no time for yourself, every minute is dedicated to some stupid ass project. All other majors have a ****-ton of work also, that is not fun or exciting. also its freezing here right now jmu is much warmer. I hate this place go to JMU, peace.

There have been a couple of prior threads on this. You might try searching CC for them.

My D liked both schools and ended up choosing UD OOS. No regrets, though I’m sure she’d have enjoyed JMU also. I don’t think of anywhere in the Boston-to-DC corridor as being “in the middle of nowhere” but I suppose that perception is individual-specific. If you like pastures and mountains, JMU is the better choice for sure.

While JMU may be the better choice to those posting, be careful to understand that we do not know where the OP lives…the transportation situation is not optimal from JMU if you live in the northeast; no airport nearby; not sure how kids get home if they don’t have rides…? good school for Balt/DC area as mentioned though…
