Unified Audition dates for 2014

Atawy, it is confusing. Basically, as you go through the application process there will come a point when it is time to schedule an audition. If you want to audition for a school at Unifieds, you select a time slot on the Unified date. It may even say the date and the location on the sign up.
It seems confusing when you are thinking about it but once it is time to register for the audition it is pretty straightforward. Good luck!

And here is a list of schools that were at the 2012 Chicago Unifieds that are not members of the “official” Unified attendees:

Any idea when 2016 dates will be posted online?

Also-is it hard to do many auditions at unifoeds in NYC since it is one day shorter than Chicago? Many of the schools my D is interested in, like Carnegie Mellon, require a 4 hour block-that would mean she could only schedule 4 auditions in 2 days? Maybe I am missing something?

I imagine a new unifieds thread will start once the dates are posted, but many MT schools require a long “block” of time that limits you to 2 scheduled auditions a day- one morning an done afternoon. There are exceptions, so you will need to check with each school. Walk ins are often more flexible, but of course then there are no guarantees that you will get an audition. IDK about New York, but in Chicago a number of “non unified” schools were in town doing auditions before “official” unifieds started- my D did her NYU and Syracuse auditions that way last year

CMU, Michigan and Syracuse all required a 4 hour block when D auditioned. Some of them didn’t take quite that long depending on where you fell in order of being seen. CMU no longer does a dance audition so their’s may be a bit shorter now. But you still needed to block the time out just in case. Some people did walk ins afterward if they weren’t needed the entire 4 hours. We found that there were as many or possibly more “non-unified” schools than “unified” schools in attendance in Chicago. I would err on the side of scheduling auditions the weekend prior and early in the week. By Wednesday afternoon and Thursday morning most schools had packed up and moved on.

We went to Chicago. It was nice because most of D’s auditions were in the hotel in which we stayed (Palmer House). So we didn’t have to venture out in the cold, it was easy to run back to the room if needed, and it was a very fun, social environment for her since many kids were also staying at PH. In NY, I think auditions are held in various rehearsal studios and on some campuses or other venues so it is a bit more spread out. But someone who has been there for Unifieds could better address how that works.
As an aside, in Chicago, we were able to get a great price on a room on the Executive Level of the Palmer House the summer before by pre-paying. It was great because the lounge on that floor had breakfast, drinks, snacks and heavy hors d’oeuvres included and a place for me to go if she needed to be by herself to get ready. You might check and see if they’re offering any special rates. We did have to add an extra day on the front end and they were very accommodating to do that for us later.

This thread is over 2 years old…I am sure it will be locked so save your info!

@pursuethedream This thread will probably be locked soon, but just so you know… my Emerson audition was a four hour block, and I spent less than two hours auditioning - actually, closer to one hour. I was out after maybe an hour and a half (including dancing, singing, and acting). While this doesn’t really help in terms of scheduling (because if a school says 4 hours, set aside that much time!), but it may help in thinking of potential walk-ins. You may be able to squeeze something in!
