Hello Everyone I am a Junior From NYC and I just want to start preparing for my auditions now. I have a question about Unified auditions, I know every school has different requirements for auditioning so I'm guessing we will be auditioning for one school at a time? I have a lot of schools on my list and I may not get all of them done in one day so is there an option to come in another day also?

Yup! You audition for one school at a time as the auditions are in different rooms on the same floor or within the same building.- or across the street. NYC Unifieds are Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Check the requirements for each of the schools- you may even be able to audition for some on campus. Also search this site as there are tons of threads on this subject. You schedule your audition through the school- not through Unifieds.

You can find more using the Search function from the blue menu at the top of the page:

Select “Advanced Search.”

Use “Unifieds” as the keyword.

Select “Search Titles Only”

In “Search in Forums” scroll down to “Musical Theatre Major” under “College Majors” - this will limit you to only those found in this forum, it helps a lot to narrow the results.

Learning to use, and using, the Search function will help you a lot on CC.

You may want to consider spending a Saturday afternoon here on CC looking back through old threads. There is a wealth of information available.

A good starting place are the “Featured Discussion” threads that you can access by clicking on “more featured discussions” at the top of this forum (look under “Featured Discussions” in the “CC’s Hot Topics” box, the link to “more featured discussions” is at the bottom of the box).

You can also click on the “Views” column header to sort this year’s forums by order of popularity, that helps to find the most interesting threads. You can extend this to ALL years by scrolling to the bottom of the page and using the “Display Options.” Select “Sorted by: Views,” “Sort Order: Descending” “From the: Beginning” to see the most popular all-time threads.

A few hours of research will yield lots of good information.

You apply, schedule, and pay audition fees individually through each school. Some of the walk-in schools charge on site and some don’t and will ask you to apply if they are interested. Have fun!

Does anyone know if walk-ins can usually be paid by credit/debit card or do you need cash or check with you? My S is planning on going to NY Unifieds, probably on his own since we live in the NY area. Also, aside from moral support (if he wants it) is there any good reason why my wife or I should be there with him?

In Chicago 2 years ago, my daughter did 3 walk-ins - only one of them, Carnegie Mellon required an on site payment, rather high, I remember, and wanted it in a check. Since we’re from Oregon, I was there with my daughter in the hotel. Since all auditions were in one place, it was fun to be part of the atmosphere, and I was able to run for extra clothes, forgotten items, and figure out all the locations so movement between could be quick. In NYC, as I understand it, your son may be schlepping to a few different locations. I’m sure some 18 year olds could handle it all on their own, but I know most I saw in Chicago who had parents there were very glad they did!

My D went thru Unifieds twice, as she ended up transferring. We live fairly close to LA so drove from home that morning. We took all of her junk and staked out a space at the hotel. It was nice I was there because she could just leave all of her stuff with me and run off to her auditions w/o having to haul everything with her. The second time she did it, she and 2 friends got a room at the hotel and I did not go. She was fine and just used her room as the base. Of course she was older and way more confident the second time…it can be a pretty intimidating process for some kids and the parental support might be nice. Just depends on the kid!

As far as walk-ins, my D did 3 or so, and I believe for her also, C-M was the only one that needed payment up front.

I don’t know if I’m too late but I just stumbled upon this thread. If you need any more help, feel free to message me. I auditioned at Chicago Unifieds, I did around 5 to 6 walk ins and overall 13 auditions :)

Hey everyone, the New Yorker Hotel, right across the street from the NYC Unifieds studios, is having a terrific cyberMonday sale today, 40% off. I already had a reservation, but just cancelled it and re-booked it and saved $260. FYI!

Thanks. I just booked. Two rooms, total of four double beds, three nights, $1125 including the enormous taxes. It looks as if the hotel web site has a better price than the hotel discount sites.

hmmm. You might have to use this link (couldn’t get the cybermonday sale to come up by just going to the web site, but I got an email about it):

Calliene - Thanks so much for posting this! GREAT deal! We live an hour’s drive from NYC but the rate was so good it was worth spending the night in the city. It will be nice to be spared the driving and have the luxury of returning to the room during the day while my D is auditioning.
