Unified Auditions

Just wanted to start a thread to see how the CCM auditions went. This was the only audition my daughter went to in NYC. She was in the 1st dance group and then did her songs and monologue 1st so we out of there very quickly. She thought it went well. She felt she hung in there with the dance even though that is her weakest element. They taped it. She felt they were given alot of time to get the routine down so she was OK snd she smiled alot!! She had to run to get changed and was back before they needed her so since she was first she started early. She said they smiled alot, nodded positively and only asked her why she wanted to go to CCM. All in all she felt good about it and thought she did the best she could have. She said they were nicer then she expected and not as intimidating as she thought it would be. Of course we don’t know what any of that means but at least she felt like she did the best she could have.

P.S.

They also said they were auditioning 800 and wanted to get 22 total (11 boys and 11 girls).

11 boys and 11 girls? That seems VERY unlike CCM.

I have my dance wednesday, 9am. Anyone else?

My songs are at 10:20. Is that the first one, then? Holy Goodness, I'm nervous!

Alfeism -- I guess I don't have any idea what to expect, so I have to ask why that sounds very UN-like CCM?

Kimoki- Did they have your daughter sing one or two songs? How about monologues? About how long was her total audition? We're getting ready to head to LA Unifieds this weekend, so we really appreciate the heads-up help. Thanks in advance!

I believe "bubba" (aubrey berg) said they were looking to accept 30 this year.. and I thought that was a little odd as well.. but hey.. I'M NOT COMPLAINING! haha.

I auditioned Saturday afternoon.
The dance (1:00) was honestly THE best dance audition I have ever had in my entire life. I nailed every second. I am POSITIVE.
My Monologue went well. I don't remember much of that.
But then.. MY CD ACCOMPANIMENT DIDN'T PLAY!
gah! I almost had a panic attack.. but then realized it was a chance for me to spend more time with them and show them my personality and that I want to WORK and this is what I do, no matter what technically goes wrong.
So we tried a few other options to get the CD to play.. and they finally asked if I'd sing a capella, and I did, and I feel that went well also.

I really just felt like CCM was "my fit" Bubba's humor was so much like my own, and in his pre-speech, he said really every one of my main goals for a program.

tiffw, I sang two songs, and did one monologue. The dance portion was a little under an hour, and there was a large chunk of time between that and my vocal/acting. I went out to lunch, which I don't recommend, because it was honestly really difficult for me to get back into the audition mindset. In the room, the average was 3-4 minutes. I think mine was closer to 5 or 6 because of the technical glitch, though.

Break a leg!

p.s. has anyone heard back from this weekend yet?
I'm so anxious. I can't stop thinking about it!!

Hi tiffw! We met at the UMich audition. My D did her CCM audition in Cincy, but I think the requirements are basically the same. Your D should be prepared to sing 2 contrasting songs, 32 bars each. And her monologue should be 1 minute in length. As far as I know, everyone in Cincy had the opportunity to sing both of their songs. I believe recorded accompaniment is required at unifieds. My D was asked why she wanted to attend CCM's program. Have fun in LA! My D is currently at Chicago unifieds. What a whirlwind this all is!

Did they ask you any questions?

Oh I guess I should have said they will accept 30 to get the 22 they want. My D did 2 songs and 1 monologue same as above and they asked the one question about why you want to go to CCM. Good luck to all!!!

I am curious too... why is that unlike CCM??

I didn't get any questions at all, but I know I had a chance to talk to them quite a bit with my cd issue and all, so I think they got a good chance to see me.

And I guess it's not so much unlike CCM as it is.. unlike the scary cut-throat competitiveness I talked up in my mind. Somewhere I read some school only takes 8 kids.. and I think my nerves applied that TINY percent to ALL of my schools.

the only reason I said it was very unlike CCM is because if there is ONE thing they're known for, it's taking more boys. Last year I believe there was like 14 boys and 8 girls.

Of course, that might just be how it yielded, but from all I've ever heard, they usually take more boys than girls.

this year they said they are TRYING to accept an equal amount. I am guy though so if they want to accept more guys, the more power to them ! :-P

What did everyone think about the audition?

I did 3 songs and my monologue which they didn't stop me after a minute.

Is anyone else dying to find out from CCM?? I auditioned at unifieds in New York and this past week has gone by so slowly! I figure that since they are just now finishing up in LA today that it might be another week but jeez does time have to go by this slow!

Hi, im new here!

I finished all of my auditions last weekend. I auditioned for CCM, Carnegie Mellon, Webster, Penn State and University of Oklahoma. All of them went good I thought. I was unofficially, officially accepted into Webster right after my audition, so that was really exciting! But as for my CCM audition I don't know, I am having mixed feelings.
We did the dance portion and that was fun, I thought I did very well. Then I talked to Lala for a little bit. Then we switched and went into the other room and Mr. Aubrey was walking to the room, so I walked up next to him and asked him how his day was. I was sooooo nervous!!! He talked to us. Then I had my audition. . . I did my monologue and then sang my two songs. Mr. Hess laughed at my one song "Poisoning Pigeons in the Park". . .Then they said thank you. Mr. Aubrey handed me one of those card things and told me to make sure all of my stuff was in for UofC. Then he put his hand out, and I shook his hand and everyone elses. So I don't really know what to think.

This is a change because of some discretion of my previous post about webster. What I meant was that I got my acceptance letter into the actual university as soon as I got home from webster. Its the unofficial one because it dosen't say if I was accepted into the theatre department yet, but official because it is from the admissions department. Sorry for any confusion. :)

From my perspective as a parent, it's tough to know you are accepted into a college, and then have to wait for the MT part! But, on the other hand, I'd want to know if I was just rejected due to grades or scores and not due to the audition!

OK so I just checked my D's status and it now says "checking" so I guess that means they are back from Unifieds and are making decisions. It says 5-7 days but I think if they want you they would tell you sooner. Good Luck to all the Unified auditionees!

Good Luck to you Kimoki and thanks for the headsup!

KIMOKI, where did you check your D's status?

A word of caution - my D and I did check her application status with regularity as well and this is a school with many online updates. In fact, at one point her status appeared as something like (I can't remember the exact wording) 'accepted with credits, MT acceptance pending', which in fact an optimistic soul might have interpreted as 'acceptance pending receipt of actual deposit by the applicant', but in fact it meant 'accepted academically, not yet by CCM'.

Other schools have updates that reflect what correspondence they sent out last, i.e. 'letter with talent scholarship sent on...', rather than 'accepted'.

Although D loved the "high tech" aspect of the application process, and did all of her applications except for one on-line, I am pretty old school and skeptical of things disappearing in cyberspace or being misinterpreted. It worked out ok for her, but I just want to point out that it also may be a good idea to play it safe, and wait & see until you actually receive something in black and white that says "congrats, we welcome you into our MT class of 2012!" but this of course is just "paranoid me" :)
