I’m trying to figure out what summer stock unified auditions to do. I’ve already submitted for Strawhats but I’m trying to find another one to do. Does anyone have any experience with OTA (North Central Regional Auditions) or NETC’s and what kind of theatre’s go to those auditions?
I have had students attend all of them and receive job offers.
Since NETC and Strawhat are the same weekend you might want to try OTA. You also would apply to both, see where you receive appointments, and decide which to attend.
There will be some theatres that attend only one of the three, some two, and some all three. It varies slightly from year to year.
This year I believe OTA, A1s, and Outdoor Drama are around the same weekend in January, so it could impact which theatres attend if they have one person (or team) go to auditions.
If you’ve never done summer stock unifieds, OTA is a nice place to start. It gives you an idea of what to expect in such an experience and is lower key than some of the bigger ones. The folks who run the audition event are extremely nice and can be very helpful - like, um, perhaps if you “forgot” to print out your headshots they might let you do it on their printer. Hypothetically speaking. The “callbacks” are often a “rah, rah” pitch for that particular company, but can be an invite for an on-site audition at a later date. Some companies do “real” callbacks and offers can be made directly from OTA.
I agree that OTAs are a great and very low-key way to start unified summer auditions. They published the list of theaters going a day or two ago, seems smaller than it has been in the past, don’t know what that means. Also, they’re in PA, not Ohio this year
@musicalkid98 my D is getting ready to do the OTA auditions next wknd. She goes to school in Ohio & def thought this would be a good “get your feet wet” summer stock audition experience. She applied to Strawhat even though that’s a long shot but she wanted to at least register & get used to that process also.
