Yes the do…at least to LA Unifieds…

@GSOMTMom, CMU at a different hotel. Since you have to schedule 4 hours with them, having them on a day with no other auditions was perfect.

Parking tidbit…

We went to Unifieds this year just for the TPAP audition (S is a junior). We were able to pre-purchase parking at Palmer House for the day for $15, which is SUBSTANTIALLY less than what we’d have paid if we’d just winged it.

If you are staying out of town and driving in daily, or just have one day of auditions, this is definately the way to go. spothero.com

SUNY Purchase usually holds auditions nearby the official Unified location but they are not part of Unifieds. This year my D auditioned for Purchase at the Hyatt in Chicago, while the official Unifieds location was back at the Palmer House.

Last year My D scheduled 9 Monday thru Thursday . She also ended up doing 5 walk-ins. Three of her dance calls were after auditions finished for the day and the other two were built into the audition time . When you make the appointments you need to leave yourself 15minutes ahead of time incase you need to fill out more paperwork but usually the school tells you that

Four out of nine of D’s auditions at Chicago Unifieds were held outside the Palmer House. All were within walking distance of the Palmer but we did take a cab once to save time when going from one to the next–not to mention it was freezing outside. Both were within a mile walking distance of Palmer, but were 1.5 mi from each other. I think it was Syracuse and NYU on Sunday before the official start of Unifieds.

The schools’ audition locations change from one year to the next (and sometimes they change from the first email you get to the final one, so pay attention).

I think it has been said before in this thread but it’s worth repeating – the way to schedule auditions is to look at ALL the schools you want audition for at Unifieds, then build a calendar that plots out the available days each school will be doing auditions. Not every school is there all of the days. For instance, we had one school that was only there Tues/Wed, and other schools that were there Saturday-Thurs. Still others Mon-Wed. So it helps if you know all of the options before you start putting the calendar together.

Note too that the Roosevelt CCPA campus is just a few blocks from the Palmer House, and they do a non-unifieds on-campus audition on the Saturday before Unifieds, in addition to their Unifieds schedule.

Roosevelt CCPA also schedules on campus auditions on Monday through Wednesday in 10 minute increments. The dance call was the preceding Sunday. That leaves time for walk-ins during the week.

Is there a list of what schools will be at what Unifieds? Sorry for the newbie question.

Yes, there is a website, however it is not updated for 2015 yet. If you google ‘unified auditions’ you can find the website. Click on ‘universities’ to see which schools participated in 2014. But from what I am hearing from others on this site, other colleges and universities are around for auditions during Unifieds.

@evilqueen there are so many schools that attend that are not on that list. The best way to find out if the schools will be at Unifieds is to check the schools website

There are well over 50 schools represented at Unifieds in the Palmer House and more at nearby locations. If you search “Unifieds” you may come up with a list from 2-3 years back. Only 20 odd are ‘official’ members, but there are lots more. Decide on your schools first and check their websites. If I have more time this weekend, I will try and find that list for you, but it is dated.

Thank you so much for the information!! There are so many decisions to be made, grateful for all of the help and support!

Bear in mind that you may not actually see “Unifieds” on the school websites. There is a list of the schools that officially participate (here’s this year’s Accommodations – NATIONAL UNIFIED AUDITIONS) and when the 2015 Unifieds schedule is published, the other schools will hold auditions in those cities on the same dates as Unifieds. So you may see a school list , for example, “New York, February 6-8” (or whenever Unifieds actually are held) and you would sign up for an audition there. Does that make sense?

Yes it does!!

I picked up a list (directory?) at the Palmer House this year. There was a full page top-to-bottom of schools holding auditions there. I’ll see if I can find it.

Is there anyone on this feed that will be attending the New York Unifieds in 2015?

We did not choose to stay at the Palmer House for Chicago Unifieds, and it was the right choice for us. Even though I was initially concerned about having to walk to the Palmer House, it turned out to be NO issue at all! On the advice of previous MT parents, we stayed at the Hampton Inn Majestic which is so close to the Palmer House that you could practically throw a rock and hit it. We quickly discovered that the calm and quiet of our hotel was a treasured oasis following the total madness of the Palmer House. It was calming to D’s nerves to get away from the crowded lobby and hallways filled with auditioning kids/parents, and the incredibly long (and nervous-making) lines just to get a cup of coffee or tea. There were no noisy neighbors, huge crowded lobbies, or long waits for the elevator. Also, the free hot breakfast was a total score! I could go down and get a wide variety of quality food/drink while D was getting ready in the morning and bring her tray to our room. No expensive room service or sweating how long the restaurant (or room service) would take to bring our food. It was VERY quick and easy to go back to our hotel between auditions whenever a break was longish. Best of all, with a AAA discount, it was WAAAAY cheaper! Plus the room and bathroom were a very decent size. We had 2 Queen beds for 2 moms and and 2 D’s. We were very comfortable and happy with our choice. There was only one time that we might have benefited from a room in the Palmer House (a quick change from dance to audition dress), but like so many others were doing, we easily found space in one of the large bathrooms at the Palmer House. Just my 2 cents. Oh yes, as others have said, I agree that 2 schools per day is a good average, but you could do 3 or more if some of those schools do not have dance calls, too. One tip, try to schedule dance calls at the end of the day whenever you can, just to avoid getting sweaty right before a singing/acting audition. It will not always be possible, but if your child gets sweaty dancing like mine, a mini blow dryer to dry hair comes in very handy for a quick change in the ladies room. One important thing that we were never told, some schools (like Syracuse, for example) ask the kids to go straight from dance into singing WITHOUT CHANGING CLOTHES. Some kids were clearly prepared for this and had cute tops and skirts to pull over their dance clothes, but we did not. Purple audition dress over black leotard and tights with tan suede pumps - YUCK!!! THAT wasn’t happening! So D did her songs/monologues in her leotard and tights with just jazz pants pulled over. (TG we had those with us by chance!) She felt VERY self-conscious and did not have a good experience in that audition!

Rookie questions here…starting research for 2016! Can someone comment on pre-screens, unified auditions, and on campus auditions!? Do you have to pre-screen to see a school at Unifieds? If you get a ‘not interested’ at unifieds are you ‘done’ with that school? If the school is interested, will you get an official acceptance from Unifieds, or just an invite to audition on campus? Thanks to all who take the time to share such valuable information!

In Terms of prescreening for unifieds… Most schools that require a prescreen do require it to schedule an audition at unifieds (although there are exceptions… But you’ll have to read the school info carefully, because what was true for this year may not be for next year.) The exception is walk ins… But that is a huge risk, because a school may not have any walk in slots. All the schools we auditioned with at Unifieds made a final decision from that audition… No callbacks to campus. Most will not communicate that decision until after (sometimes well after) unifieds.

Thanks @kategrizz - so much to learn - just getting started. A friend’s D did all on-campus auditions, but I’m sure my D will try to see several at Chicago Unifieds!
