Unifieds Audition Question

I see on the CMU website that they’ll be at Chicago Unifieds. Their options for times are 8am and 12 Noon only. Does anyone know how much time they really need? (ie… do they keep the kids the whole time, or are they in/out relatively quickly?)

It will be different this year because they don’t have the dance audition.

They had their own floor last year so you really couldn’t tell, but if it is run like it is on campus which has the same time block it is pretty much the whole time and you will have no way of knowing when you will be done. We checked in they basically divided the group in half those starting with dance and the acting monologue group. Basically they grabbed 5 kids and took them to the monologue audtions and did the same for singing when they were done they came back and waited until they were called for the other portion.

If anything and you get out early you could use that time for walkins

Thanks! I was wondering the same thing when I saw the times.

Remember that CMU isn’t actually part of the Unifieds ([National Unified Auditions](http://www.unifiedauditions.com/universities.html)). Some schools have their own auditions in the same cities at roughly the same times, for the convenience of all concerned, but may be in a different location.

It doesn’t really make a difference, but I wanted to clarify because the whole Unified thing is rather confusing when someone is new to it. And who isn’t, except parents of multiple theater kids?

Yeah, I discovered that when Ds school took a field trip to unifieds this year for the seniors but took all the theatre majors. Her friends auditioned for all sorts of schools that weren’t on the official list. I SURE wish they were going again as a field trip this time. NOT! :(

SU88BFA, the answer is: It depends. When my girl auditioned for them two years ago they started with the dance call at 8 AM, then she sang a couple hours later, and finally, she was one of two of the last kids they saw for monologues a bit after noon. Kids were leaving as they finished, but it just depended on where they landed in the order. I don’t think not having the dance call would change it that much as everyone was done with that portion by close to 9 AM.

I have another question. Is there an accompanist at the Unified audition? Their website states that they provide one, but I wanted to double check for my notes.

Thanks!

GSOMTMom - Yes, CMU provides an accompanist.

Thanks, xatty! That’s good to know!!
