Does anyone go to a high school that has uniforms?
If so, what are your views on it? What do you have to wear?

Our school just implemented a uniform policy....

Our school just implemented a uniform policy....

Yeah, it’s a district policy, been here since I was in 2nd grade. It’s just polo, school colored shirts and khaki pants. At first I hated it but then I realize I don’t exactly have a lot of regular clothes anyway. Also I usually just wear spirit or regular shirts that are either black or gray and no one tells me much. It doesn’t really stop the whole hoochie dressing (since they still sell really low cut polo and short khaki skirts) or the gang affiliation (when some schools’ colors are red and blue, or when people just wear dickies and a blue under shirt) that it was meant to.

I’d like it if they got rid of it, or just enforced it differently I guess.

I went to an all-boys private school, so uniforms were mandatory.

Late autumn/winter code: dress shirt, tie, white undershirt, khakis, dress shoes, proper belt; clean-shaven face and appropriately worn hair that doesn’t go past the eyebrows or earlobes and doesn’t touch the collar. No spikes, dreads, etc. No studs, earrings, etc.
during school hours. No visible chains, necklaces, etc. No visible prominent tattoos (although I’m not really sure what they’d do if you had one on your face or neck).

Spring code: polo instead of dress shirt and tie, all the rest the same. Seniors wear a different-colored polo.

Hoodies must be school-affiliated. Seniors can wear hoodies from a college, but only if they show proof of admission.

I’ve worn a uniform all my life lol. Personally, it doesn’t bother me and makes mornings that much easier since I don’t need to find clothes.

^ That’s a bit more strict than our NJROTC uniform regs o_o I think I would hate your school.

My school doesn’t require any kind of dress code but my cousin’s catholic school does. They even have to wear a specific pair of shoes. (landsend: they are hideously ugly)

But I have worn uniform from 1st grade all the way to 8th. I think after middle school uniform becomes all little bit excessive and unnecessary. Isn’t the purpose to teach kids discipline and responsibility? After 8th grade I think we get the point.

Many citizens commend my private school’s uniforms as the cutest uniforms in the province haha.

I went to south India for my elementary and middle school…we were only supposed to wear white shirts and white pants. Nothing more, nothing less.
Its got to be the standard white T-shirt (no white polos or white sweatshirts). And standard white pants. No white jeans.

We looked like the navy patrol lol.

Okay, I’ve been to four schools, the first did not have a uniform and I’ll describe the appearance of the school uniform of the other three.

Public elementary school located by the beach… green polo shirt, navy polarfleece (do they have those in the US), navy shorts/trackpants… in other words, very casual

Public elementary school in a suburban area… (for winter) checkered dress or navy shorts with matching belt, white blouse, red tie and navy polarfleece (what’s with them?)… more uniform-y than the previous school as we must wear navy/black shoes

Private all girls’ middle/high school… summer: blue button up dress, plain white ankle socks, … winter: navy blue socks/tights, checkered kilt, white/blue (varies on grade) blouse, navy/gold/mixed color tie (varies too, on grade)… navy cardigan/sweater, navy blue blazer, brown t-bar sandals for summer&winter

We have a few “mufti days” where we can wear whatever, but it takes me forever to decide on what to wear on those days so it is probably convenient to have a uniform!

I had a dress code in junior high. Red polo shirts, khaki pants, belt, and black or brown dress shoes. In eighth grade they changed the shirts to green because some other school started wearing red (what?). Anyway, I haven’t worn a polo shirt since I left, lol.

Edit: My friends still go to that school and they’ve changed it now to where you can wear patterns and stripes on your polo shirt in high school (before you had to wear solid colors and couldn’t wear the same color as the junior high). They’ve loosened it up a lot.

Yep, in my district the kids in grades 5 - 12 have to wear this:

Black, Grey, White, or Black polo, button-down or other collared shirt. Short or long-sleeved.

Khaki or black pants, capris, shorts, or skirt.

Brown, Black, or White shoes. No patterns.

Shirts cannot have logos and belts (optional) must be black or brown.

No hoodies. Dresses that are the right color and length and have a collar can be worn. Sweaters must be the right color and have a collared shirt underneath.

This is only the second year the dress code has been in effect and I still don’t like it.
Only one more year…

I had to wear a uniform from kindergarten until 10th grade. It never really bothered me. To be honest, going to a school where polos are uniforms would have seemed really, really casual to me. In primary school, we wore dresses in summer and a jumper over a blouse in winter. In secondary school it was just a skirt and a blouse, with a sweater and/or polar fleece (yep, hanana, I think it’s a Commonwealth-school-system thing) and/or tights in winter.

I’ve been at the same private school since kindergarten, and we have uniforms.

In elementary and middle school, we had to wear a blue/white polo shirt (with school logo) and navy shorts/pants/skirts with a belt. Shoes had to be a certain color, too. Oh, and the shirts had to be tucked in.

High school relaxed the rules; no tucked-in shirts, no belts, and no restrictions on shoes. Additionally, we can wear navy shirts and khaki shorts/pants. They’re making some changes next year that affect the girls (re: shorts length).

When I used to attend a private Catholic HS, I did.

Blue skirts, white tops, blue or red tie. Almost identical to what the girls in Gossip Girl wore.
I always got written up because my skirt was too short, though.

I also got written up for doing a report on Harry Potter and the teacher scrawled “don’t ever bring this trash to me again” on my paper.

Good times.

i went to catholic school when i was a kid. we wore button down long sleeve shirts (white), an easy to put on tie, black pants, and black shoes. we could also wear a sweater vest or a long sweater in school colors.

in the spring we wore short sleeve shirts and short pants. the rest was the same.

that was a long, long time ago. now i just wear whatever i want (public school)

I go to an all-girls school, so we have a uniform. We have a lot of different options, and people really don’t follow the rules so no one is punished for violating the dress code.

Black or red or white polo (long or short sleeved)*
Plaid skirt
Black knee socks (spring/fall) or tights* (winter)
Black shoes

Other add-ons:
Black V-neck Sweater*
Black crew-neck sweater

*Must be worn on designated “full-uniform days”, like awards ceremonies or for a school-wide group picture.

Lots of black, it’s a very gothic uniform.

Most people wear black sneakers, even though we are not supposed to (black converse here). Skirts can’t be more than three inches above the knee, but people roll their skirts to be 6-10 inches above the knee even though there are no guys to try to impress. People can’t have any other sweater or jacket, but most people wear other hoodies in school. You can wear a plain white t-shirt under your uniform shirt, but some people wear them in crazy colors like neon pink or green.

Interesting! Are you all in private schools? Or public?

I go to an all girls private school and we have to wear uniforms.

Honestly, they’re not that bad and you get used to them pretty quickly.

YES! Ever since 2nd grade I’ve been in a uniform. It used to be more of a dress code, but they take more and more away every year.

i’ve worn uniforms all through school, and i dont mind them. they arent uncomfortable and it is slightly easier to get ready in the morning, but i still prefer not having uniforms. the only part i really dislike is wearing them when i get out of school and have to do some errands. my school has a wierd rule that dosent allow us to wear polos from halloween till spring break. i dont really understand it, but we have to wear oxford shirts the rest of the year, and on chapel days we have to wear a tie and blazer. we also have annoying rules like that we cant roll our sleeves up even the heating in the school is on too high and it is gets really hot in the building.

I’ve worn uniform since I started school. My uniform is more “customizable” we can wear khaki, grey and black colored pants and skirts. Blue, black, grey, tan, and white polo or shirts. And we can wear whatever kind of shoes and sneakers, even sandals during the end of the school year. So not many people wear the same thing, and we all look different in school. Besides Monday, everyone wears black that day for some reason.
