There was a thread on this a little while ago, but it seems to have disappeared. Anyone get interview invites yet? I havnt :(. Getting worried.

Just got the email today with the interview invitation. I submitted the med school app last week.

i got an email on jan 25th saying that i was not offered an interview =[ i had turned in the app on jan 15th. good luck to you! to be honest, i couldn’t have afforded it anyway… union only offered me 14k to offset a 56k cost =/

Dont Worry^, i turned my supp in januar 2nd…still haven’t heard back. idk if thats good or bad.

hey drexelfreak
i was just wondering how you got 23k from union
was it merit aid or need based?

i dont mean to pry but i only got 14k and i thought that was the limit for merit?

It is extremely frustrating that some people have gotten notifications (both rejections and interview notifications) in a timely matter from Union and some have not. Apparently, interviews are offered through March, so if they haven’t notified you does that mean that you are on the fence for an interview? I submitted my supplement two weeks ago and have heard absolutely nothing.

Drexelfreak, 23k? my letter said the 14k presidential scholarship was the most prestigious merit award offered by Union, How did you get the 23k?

If the $100 fee for albany medical college is any indication this program is expensive, but it rewards you BS/MBA/MD or BS/MS/MD so its still appealing

I only got 14K too. The invitation to interview said they interview through March, so I don’t think you should get discouraged. Each of these programs seems to have different hot buttons, some are more research oriented and some are more business oriented.

tennisdoc, I heard from past friends who interviewed for the program that its not like most bs/md medical school interviews. They ask you some ethical questions (i.e. stem cell, abortion, euthanasia, etc.). Also they really talk about leadership, as they have a unique “special focus.”

Good luck

Havnt gotten anything about the interview yet. :(. It is hella expensive though. Originally i thought the 56k was for all 4 years and my jaw dropped when i realized it was per year.
@vbhasin: Its honestly not the only BS/MBA/MD out there. I interviewed at SBU/GW recently and a couple kids are doing the same things in 8 years (The program is incredible and works to what the students want). And the place is so pretty and omg i think i’ve fallen in love with the place and am going to be hella ****ed when i get rejected :(

@awesomesauceness i decided i didnt want to go union for the exact reason that I could do the same thing at sbu for a wayyyyy less cheaper price

Thank you @vbhasin! I am very, very nervous. Do you think they are looking for opinions about ethical issues or what? Or are they trying to test the interviewee’s grasp of the ethical issue around these topics?

Also, I think the interview invitations are staggered. They don’t ALL come out at once. So don’t get discouraged. I think you will get an invitation to inteview about 2 weeks before they want you to be there.

I also got 14K per year.
I liked the SBU program, and I saw some kids do the MBA thing too. The only downfall is once again, the location…but I still hope i get in.
I heard from my friend who had the rpi interview last year that if you applied to both union and rpi you interview is in mid feb.- late feb… Idk if this is true, but i’ve applied to both and gotten both supplements, just kinda edgy because if i do get an interview for both I’m pretty sure they’ll ask “why did you choose both”-since they have different objectives and “fit”.

@tennisdoc
They are definitely looking for you to take a stance on these ethical issues. I know its sounds cheesy, but they want to see that you will be a firm leader with strong opinions on controversial topics. Don’t worry about offending your interviewer or other interviewees if they have a different position than you. They also want to know that you know about these issues and “grasp” them so support opinions with current events, court cases, and stances by influential people.

i.e. for stem cell research
mention the fact that Obama has re-initiated funding for stem cell research, and this

Show that you understand the controversy about the issue and then take a stance. Ultimately, play up your leadership, and show that you won’t be a bystander; that is what they are looking for its “leadership in medicine”
Be confident, if you got an interview, you got it because they think you are a good fit.

also are u in-state, I was thinking may be they interview in-state kids first?

again, good luck

Thank you so much @vbhasin1! I really, really hope I meet you next year and can thank you in person! This is so helpful. No, I am nowhere near in state. I almost wonder if they are giving interviews now to the last ones who submitted a supplement. Like last in/first out or something. The top of the pile. I think I was one of the last ones asked to submit a supplement. I will let you know what happens. If you have any other thoughts/insights please let me know. I really like this program and I do feel that it is a great fit for me.

No problem, tennisdoc. I hope to meet you next year too; (cause that’ll mean I made it into the program)–haha. It’s my pleasure to help people out; this process can really take its toll on people and its good to know what’s coming. I don’t know if I’ll get an interivew, but I hope I do, because I’d love the opportunity. I think I supplemet my supplement in the middle so maybe the started with the first ones they got and then last ones after they finished interviewing the first. I am just hoping for the best. This program is my first choice so that’s why I know so much about it.

I told someone else to do this -check out the AMA website and look at current news and the opinions of doctors on current issues. Again, Bioethics is important. The AMA website will help you if they ask ethics questions or about the problems currently facing doctors. Also keep up on current events, there is a possibility they may ask you something related to Egypt, Tunsia. Know something about the recent healthcare billl–again they make ask you about this. They want to see if you just study a lot or want to learn about and be a citizen of the world. They just really want to see if you are well-rounded.

yet again, good luck

Thank you! I will start preparing and let you know what happens. I did not apply for the rpi program, by the way. I have only applied to one other program, PLME. I love the liberal arts at both.

got my rejection email on monday, (insert frowning face here if I knew how to)

Good luck to all the people with interviews

I am so sorry to hear that vbhasin1. I want to thank you again for your help and I wish you the very best. Have you applied to other programs that you are hopeful about? I will probably spend all the money to get there and get a rejection too.

Anyone care to offer insight into the interviews this year at Union/AMC? I know a few have taken place already and would appreciate any insight you may offer.
