Unique Case

Hello everybody, I have quite a challenge for you.

I have a very interesting situation and I'd like to get some feedback based on personal experience and knowledge of college admissions.

My GPA is extremely low in the "ivy league" standards as I ended many classes with 89%. However, all of these classes were honors classes. It looks like my GPA will be around:

Weighted GPA: 4.33
Unweighted:3.7

On the other hand, my SAT looks like its going to be between 2290-2340, and my SAT 2's range from 740-790.

My extra curriculars depict me as a leader and well rounded individual.

My Extra Curriculars are:

Student Council
Freshman: Vice President of the Class
Sophomore: President of the Class
Junior: Vice President of the School
Senior: President of the School

Tennis
Four Years Varsity Tennis
Senior: Captain of the Tennis Team
200 Hours Volunteering with local tennis organizations

MUN
Freshman year: 4 awards (Verbal, 2 Honorables, 1 Outstanding)
Sophomore Year: 3 awards (Gavel, 2 Outstandings)
Junior Year: 3 awards (Gavel, Outstanding, Honorable)
Senior Year: 4 awards (2 Gavels, 2 Outstandings)
Junior Year: Officer in a MUN team ranked top 10 in the nation
Senior Year: President in a MUN team ranked top 10 in the nation

Music
I have played the Bass for 8 years
Freshman Year: Freshman Orchestra
Freshman Year: President of Freshman Orchestra
Sophomore Year: 2nd Orchestra
President of 2nd Orchestra
Junior Year: 1st Orchestra
Senior Year: 1st Orchestra
President of 1st Orchestra

Other leadership roles in my school (minor stuff)

Essays about:
Leadership
How experiences in MUN and Student Council shaped me

What are my chances of getting into an Ivy? Top 10 school? Top 20?

What does your HS counselor think ? Have you asked him/ her ? They will know more information about your situation .

I would guess that you have a pretty good chance of getting into a lower Ivy, but it really is no guarantee

Your chances are pretty much equal to the chance of you falling into the Grand Canyon.

Do you think it’s really that low?

^ You’re chances are definitely not that low! While your GPA is a little low, your EC’s are outstanding. A good essay will go far!

Does anybody have personal experience in “Low GPA vs Good SAT & EC’s”? I’d just like to get a fair idea of whether students like myself get accepted into the Ivys (and other top schools).

For example, what does everybody think my chances would be when applying to
UPenn (wharton), ED with these stats?

a 3.7 unweighted is usually equivilant to an average score of A-, not B+, so if you have a 3.7 it wont look too bad. That is, unless they see the actual grades of your classes out of 100.

Keep in mind that no matter the school, whether it’s Ivies or not, acceptance is not a guarantee. There are plenty of people who got rejected from top regional universities or top LACs that have gotten in to top national universities as well. For example, Chapman is one of those top regional universities that I’ve heard of having to reject applicants who have gotten in to such schools like UCLA and USC, etc. Different schools are looking for different qualities in an applicant.
