Unique DILEMA!! Math 1A or Math 1B?

I got a 5 on the calculus AB AP exam my JUNIOR year. Since my school didnt offer Calculus BC, i didnt do any calculus at all my entire senior year. Now im at berkeley, and ive decided to retake Math 1A since ive basically forgotten a lot of the stuff ive learned since i havent touched calculus in 1 year+.

but now im worried. people say math 1b during second semester is killer. should i just brush up on calculus and immediately start with math 1b instead of going back and 'retaking' math 1a?

either way is bad. if i start with math 1a as i am doing right now, i will have to confront the infamous math 1b during second semester.

if i take math 1b right now, it wont be as bad as during second semester (when all the premeds get there) but i will also not be entirely prepared (as my calculus is rusty).

Take Math 1A in Spring 06, then 1B for Fall 07. Solves your problem.

This is not a "unique" dilema at all. Search around the threads.

I don't see why people HAVE to do all of these requirements their freshman year.

Yeah, this is as "not unique" as it's going to get.

You haven't taken BC at all? Taking BC really helps with Math 1B.

Since you haven't taken BC at all, AND you haven't taken Calculus in so long, I would lean towards 1A.

I mean, even though it's "tougher" in the spring, it's still the same class. It's not going to be that different.

And if you take Math 1A you'll gain a firm footing which will prepare you very well for success in Math 1B.

I agree with vicissitudes, Math 1B is a pretty hard class, and if you never took BC it would be tough. I would relax in 1A, you don't always have to take the toughest classes.
