Unique ECs

So Prep Schools like candidates with 'unique' talents that can contribute to the school right?

Well would having singing talent and experience be particularly helpful in the admissions process as opposed to someone who plays that piano? (A more conventional/mundane/conformist talent)

Oh and would being a songwriter help?

It wouldn't hurt. It would make you stand out and show creativity. I'd definitely put an emphasis on that during the interview.

Singing probably won't help that much, since there are many singers and singing groups on most campuses. I think songwriting would help. There are some kids who songwrite, but not nearly as many as who sing.

I'm trying to thing of something that sets me apart from other applicants. I'm really, really interesting in different cultures, languages, traveling, etc. I don't know how I could show them that, though. Any suggestions? (I don't mean to take over your thread, but it's just that I have so many threads on this forum, lol).

My rising 8th grade d was in a "jump rope" group. She has since discontinued, however, I always thought this activity to be quite unique. Interestingly, jump roping groups are world wide. I guess this is an EC, unfortunately she didn't stick with it because her group was much younger than her and she felt "wierd" about the age diff. As important as the activity , is longevity of the activity.

I don't know if singing talent is rarer to find than piano-playing talent, but it would help if you could sing in multiple languages :). One of my classmates at prep school could sing in 4 languages.. I always looked forward to her performances.

Greatings to you John the scholar, long time no hear. Your Milton singer is quite rare. If you were a concert pianist who has performed at Carnigie Hall, you would be set. Sorry if Carnagie is mispelled.

Hello prepparent, I still post on CC, just rarely on prep school topics.

Carnegie =)

Gian, that's great! Thanks for the spelling. Wouldn't you know it, I tried twice at spelling that word and missed it both times.

Yay! I can kind of sing in a few languages.

English, Tagalog, Maori, Samoan, Zulu/Swahili, Fijian
