sorry for posting another completely unnecessary thread... its probably not healthy to stalk this forum so much, but anyways...

what's everyones unique talent or quality they have that they believe makes them stand out in the ED pool?

for me, i sent in a visual arts supplement, i've won some art/writing awards, and i personally think my art is pretty cool/something you don't normally see everyday. i'm banking on there being a small amount of good artists to drown out my talents... hehe

yeah I think it’s healthier for pretty much everyone who’s applied ED (or even RD) to stay off these boards, try worry about other applications and try to enjoy senior year a little. Ask questions if you don’t know what to do about a situation like “should I write to my interviewer?” or “should I contact admissions about X?”. Otherwise the board just becomes neurotic and gets students more anxious than they need to be (what we all hate about college confidential).

hmm my mom’s an alumna so I have the legacy thing going for me although that’s not much.

I’d say what really makes me stand out is that I currently beta test for the iPhone gaming company Tapulous. What that entitles is that I get to test some of their app updates and future tracks for bugs, glitches, etc. I’ve been at it for a year or so now.

If not that then I have a full scholarship to the school I am currently attending and I’ve been playing the piano for ages and now do community service involving that. I’ve also been doing karate for 7 years and I am a brown belt (my current black belt test date is sometime in July).

I think those of the more outstanding things I do that were on my application. I do a lot of stuff outside of school. xD

Astronomy researcher on the Gliese 581 Solar System (the one that beholds a presumed planet with a plausible habitable zone) It’s actually very exciting !

not much i think. i’m a URM, english as second language, all that. i submitted the abstract i did for this research project as part of my internship at a pennstate institution. i think my essay says a lot about me. i did it about ayn rand. i don’t think you can find a lot of people my age that have read both atlas shrugged and the fountainhead…at least i hope not, for my sake lol

Pop-Punk band Vocalist/Guitarist
Multilinguist (5 languages)
CEO of an Independant Record Label (try searching for “Maneo” on iTunes or Amazon. You should find some of the music I released under this label. )
Ridiculous involvement in audition-based schools arts (Drama, Musical, Jazz Band, Wind Ensemble, Chamber Choir)
President of Cultural Exchange Club, Treasurer of Gay Straight Alliance

I don’t know if this counts…but a good family friend serves on the board of visitors for columbia so he wrote me a great letter and put in a call to the office.

kmigasde, that’s awesome i feel kind of ~eh admitting it cause i feel like people think ~oh you read a big book you’re smart huh? you know, in that sarcastic kind of way. but the book was a gift and i read it and it really changed my way of thinking. it’s great. i don’t agree 100% with EVERYTHING rand talks about, but i do agree with a lot of it. she’s a great writer and philosopher.

I only read it bc my sister basically made me, she is obsessed with rand. like you i disagree with a lotttt of what she writes but the ideas themselves really are amazing to think about. one of these days i have got to read fountainhead.

hmm, can’t say i’ve ever read one of his books. but i know my psych professor is a fan.

the fountainhead is okay. i read them in “order”, and by that i mean in the order she wrote them in. the fountainhead was mean to be read first, and rand actually wrote atlas shrugged for the sole purpose of explaining the fountainhead.

i found atlas shrugged to be more enjoyable, but the fountainhead’s story is certainly captivating.
