so… does anyone have anything more to add?

anyone? : (

Can’t really give chances, but it seems like you might do well to check out some more top LACs. That’s the environment you appear to be after. But then there’s the problem of course selection. Maybe you have already, but if not, try looking closely at art departments at LACs besides Dartmouth.

We have huge pride in our school and our athletic program. Almost all of us here (excluding those that came here for only academics and like a lower tier school’s team) are proud of both.

To put it in perspective. My HALL, has 4 pre med kids, 2 nursing, 4 business school, 2 english majors, 1 poly sci, 1 music, 3 engineering and I think one that’s architecture. We know when to have fun and we know when to study, just be prepared to stay up late on those days that you study.

I think you have as good of a chance as any person from a top 15 without a huge hook at Harvard and Yale. That means, it’s a bit low side. Why do you want to go there? Do you truly believe (know) that Harvard or Yale will give you a more complete college experience? What about Dartmouth, Brown and UPenn? I mean, as much as we can tell you about a place, the best advice is gotten from the students that go there, and hell, I know for a fact that we’re all bias towards the schools that we go to ;)

Not accusing you of anything, but it’s interesting that you did choose only Ivy’s ;)

To be honest, it might make a difference, but no one really knows how others will take it. If we glance to see that your GPA is 3.8, we’re gonna think your transcript is impressive, but to me at least, a 3.6 with a harder courseload is more impressive than a 3.8 with a easier one.

Cvjn, when you say “We” do you mean “U Michigan students?” Also, I was not knocking Michigan, as one of my aunts works in admissions there and I have family ties and great respect for the school. I know it’s a great place academically and socially - it is just WAAAYYYY too big for me. In the quote you selected above, I was just trying to define what I meant by “school spirit,” as someone had earlier mentioned that Ivy League athletics are not particularly exciting.

I’m also confused by your comments about my chances. I’m still in the beginning of trying to define what I want, so I’m using this list of six schools as a starting point. They were in no particular order, and Dartmouth and Yale probably stand out as my top choices. I’m looking at Ivy’s mostly because I think it would be a dissapointment to “trade down.” I know you’re not accusing me of anything, and I appreciate it.

I guess my real question is (for anyone who comes across this thread):

Based on what you see from what I have expressed in my comments above, where do you believe I could be happy? For what reasons do you think these institutions will or will not meet my needs?

Understandably, U-M is a bit big.

I’ve heard wonderful things about Dartmouth and honestly, it’s always been my top Ivy League. A good friend of mine goes there and she loves it. So obviously I’m a bit biased…

How big is too big? How small is too small?

i hate to throw out numbers, but i’ve always been focused on mid-sized schools. i guess what i want is a tight-knit community in an environment with a lot of interesting activities, performances, guest speakers, social events. i want available faculty, research, and intern opportunities. last year dartmouth was my #1 choice, but i didn’t get in. i’ve been thinking that yale’s residential college system would be a perfect environment for me. also, i have guaranteed transfer status to cornell, but it may be too big… though i have a bunch of close friends there who are loving it and would include me in their social scene so i could hit the ground running. what are your thoughts?

b u m p . . .

LAC’s seem like they are worth checking out. I can’t help much aside from that. It just seems that top LAC’s might have less of the med school craze your school has. Good luck.

Brown seems to be a good fit for you. The art history here seems to be good. I’m taking a course now.

Here’s this year’s list:

http://mocha.cs.brown.edu/mocha/search.action?semesters=5&semesters=6&q=hiaa&professor=&title=&Hours=

thanks, renix. that course list is amazing!
how would you define brown’s social scene? there’s no one better to ask than an actual brown student.

bump . . .

bump? please?
