thoughts on chances?

also, amherst's acceptance rate for transfers in 2006 was ~17%...but i'm applying for fall of 2008 so isn't there a year between my application year and that stat?

also, how big of an issue will overenrollment be for transfers to amherst since they expected a yield of 36% but actually yielded 40%?

i just read that they took 11/200 last year...uh oh...were 11 accepted or was that the yield?

thanks for your time,
claymangs

bumpppp...

Your stats are excellent. Very very nice. Who can say what your chances are beyond that? Good luck.

thanks for the encouragement, Andale

The one thing I'm worried about as I apply to Amherst and other top schools like Penn, Brown, etc is whether Hamilton's reputation when compared to other transfer applicant's schools will hurt me. Do you think it will? An Ivy or Georgetown or a host of other schools look a lot better on paper...

I guess what I'm asking is: Will being at Hamilton hurt my app or are there not that many schools from which students are applying whose reps are that much better...

thoughts?

It seems unlikely that students from very top tier schools (Ivies) would be your competition in the transfer process. Ivy League schools keep upwards of 99% of their students from freshman to sophmore year...there simply aren't that many students transferring out of the ivy league who are going to be competing with you for spots at Amherst.

Ok, so even if Ivy kids aren't applying aren't there kids who are applying from better schools than Hamilton?

like Georgetown, Vandy, Duke, Pomona, Bowdoin, Davidson, etc...

or will there be so few (relatively speaking) that it won't make much of a difference...

I guess I'm trying to figure out where Hamilton is in the range of schools from where Amherst transfers are applying...
