will colleges accept me ...? especially ivy leagues?
I really want to go to Wharton Business, isn't my resume leaning towards like business?

Honestly, you should definitely be worried. You don’t even have the test scores needed to solidify the academic portion of your app.

EDing to Wharton is definitely going to be a waste of your ED.

Colleges are just going to see you as a bookworm, and you aren’t even a good bookworm considering your mediocre test scores (for Ivies).

High reaches for Chicago, Penn, Columbia, Cornell.

That rank seems pretty outstanding. How much business is your online enterprise doing? If it is a legitimate amount, that could be considered a strong EC. Volunteering and work experience are ECs too.

UCLA is the most likely for you to be accepted to, and even then might be a reach.

The others are all reaches.

Have some safeties that don’t care about ECs as much/at all.

yeah, the business is the only thing that can help me.
it is a legit business.
i first buy clothes/accesories from korea through wholesale
and people buy it from me in the United States.
i have regular customer too.

What do you mean you have no EC’s? Volunteering, work, and summer programs all go in the same category as EC’s. As long as you have stuff to put in your resume (like volunteering, tutoring, interning, working, and going to summer programs), then you’re fine.

I think you are a really strong applicant because of your grades! 4.0 UW is really good. I think you might want to retake the ACT and take the SAT. Your ECs may not be the best in the world, but they’re fine. Being valedictorian is really impressive! While I think Penn, Columbia, and Cornell are reaches (they’re reaches for everyone, though), you have a decent shot at UChicago and UC Berkeley. I think you’re a match at BU, Emory, and Carnegie Mellon. But if you retake the ACT and try to score 34+,take the SAT with a goal of over 2100, continue to volunteer, keep up your (stellar!) grades, and focus on writing great essays, you have more than a decent shot at most of your colleges. Good luck! And don’t feel bad for “no ECs”…colleges ALWAYS look at academic stats first!

I would up the scores and apply RD. Wharton really cares about scores, and your scores are not competitive for the top schools in general.

BUT BUT BUT:

BUT, I do think you should have more safeties and maybe think about why you’re applying to the schools you chose. Don’t apply just because the name sounds good! Some other options include Cornell, Rice, WUSTL, Georgetown, Georgia Tech, University of Rochester, Stevens Institute of Technology, UT Austin, University of Michigan, Carleton, William & Mary, George Washington, John Hopkins, Harvey Mudd, Northeastern, Northwestern, Pratt…woo, I gave you a ton. (Note: Obviously, not all of those are safeties) Now research them and think about what you want in a college (major, dorm life, etc. etc.) and narrow it down.

And I do think you might want to reconsider applying ED to UPenn unless you’re truly in love with the school (don’t apply there because your friend went or something). If you want an Ivy League badly, you might want to try Cornell ED. Last time I checked, Cornell has a 19% acceptance rate RD but 37% acceptance rate ED. Or you might want to try some other great university where applying early will raise your chances of getting in very high. It sounds a little superficial, but don’t waste your ED!

But anyway , yeah. DEFINITELY find some good safeties and write some killer essays. You’ll be fine. Keep up the good work! Hope I helped, haha.

thanks, yes i am planning on applying to more schools:
Carnegie Mellon, Northwestern, University of California- San Diego, Boston University, etc.

But one question, i know that ED to Wharton is a really high reach, but that’s why i am putting it ED. Is ED supposed to be a school where you have high chance?

I am simply putting Upenn in ED because it is my dream school.

up the scores and you’re golden :]

You have ecs volunteer work, summer jobs, those are more important then any clubs. Wow great scores and validictorian! If you could just up your act to a 34 youd b a shoe in ed!
Maybe try the SATs? Retaking is a must for you

Please CHANCE ME! http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1000477-chances-please-cornell-brandeis-umd-honors-will-chance-back.html</a></p>

thanks everyone, but i am getting too different responses xP
good and not so good responses xP
i am definitely retaking the ACT though.

I just hope some private college will accept me

I would aim lower. There are many asian students with higher test scores. Having a 4.0 is great but I bet there are a lot of kids who would have a 4.0 if they didn’t do anything else (EC wise)
Most of these are reaches. I didn’t notice if you’re a California resident or not; if you’re not, Berkeley and UCLA are low reaches.

You’re grades are really good, but since grades aren’t the only thing colleges look at, it’s hard to know for sure…
but if you raised your scores, you would up your chances at getting in
thats what I’m worried about too…

I’d say you have a solid shot at Berkeley and BC. good to have work experience too…it’ll probably come down to your essays and letters of rec.

btw if you don’t mind saying, what HS do you go to? Cerritos high?

thanks guys
I already applied ED to Wharton and EA to Uchicago…

so I’ll just have to wait and see. hopefully UChicago will accept me?

Honestly, it’s going to depend on what’s emphasized. Your scores and grades are legitimately good. However, a lack of ECs could potentially sink you. Or they won’t matter as much as you think they do. I don’t know too much about Wharton, but at the U of C, it could depend on your essays.

I have the opposite problem: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1021592-freaking-out-just-applied-ea-uchicago-could-someone-please-gauge-my-chances.html</a></p>
