Unique Supplementary Material?

For the supplementary portion of the Stanford Application, i feel as i should put only unique details about myself.
I feel as if it would be a waste of space to write that I like "Usher" in the "favorite artists/books/etc" section, because his music is so mainstream and he is popularly known.
So, is it bad to include extremely mainstream people in your part of your application, instead of only listing those artists that would show that you as an individual have a unique taste?

I’ve been thinking about this too…

But then I think, if I put some random indie bands and independently published books and films, what if they think I’m just making stuff up? (or rather, they might just not have a true sense of who I am since they wouldn’t know the type of things I enjoy if they are so unknown)

Just be yourself, in my opinion. I don’t think the profile questions carry a lot of weight in the admissions process, they’re just to show that you are not closed-minded and have a life outside school.

If your chances of admission to Stanford hinge in any way on whether or not you say that you like Usher on your application, God help us all.

LOOOOOOL^ so much logic.. seriously. i will no longer overly analyze those questions lol

would it give a bad impression if I write a metal band in that section given the stereotypes?

No. Just be honest…
