Uniqueness

Will being unique in extracurriculars and essays and doing great on an interview be a great aid in your application?

I don't have the highest average (a 3.7) or SAT scores (2090), but I have a super rigorous courseload, and awesomely interesting Extracurriculars and Essays that are fantastically original (two teachers who've been working for over 40 years told me they've never read anything like my essays).

My question is will this aid me reasonably more (being unique) in the admissions process?

I ask people because everyone says being unique helps, but does it really?

If you are at the lower end of the school's range, all those things can help. If you're not solidly in range (50%), the ECs better be spectacular!

Being unique helps a lot if you are unique in something that the school is looking for. Do you play the harp quite well and the school symphony needs a harpist? You get the idea. If they have no particularly interest in your unique traits, then the boost is probably a lot less.
