I recently visited Cal to look at dorms, and I found myself liking Unit 3 best, with Unit 1 as a close second--mostly because they're both close to campus and just feel more social/inviting to me. But I heard that Unit 3 is a party dorm, so I was wondering how true that was. I'm thinking a single-sex (female) floor in Unit 3.

Also, what's your opinion on Unit 1, as well as the mini-suites for both Unit 1 and 3? I'm a social/talkative person and I want to party now and then, but I don't do drugs/get drunk and grades matter to me. Where do you think I'd get the most balanced experience?

I lived in Unit 3 for 2 years and loved it. If you’re a social/talkative person, you’ll fit in great and make a lot of friends instantly. Most people don’t actually do drugs, the few that do smoke weed which is the least dangerous/scary one.

There are a lot engineering majors, chemistry majors, premeds, etc in Unit 3, all of whom will be studying a lot. Don’t worry about it.

Totally depends on your floor - I’m on the loudest floor in the building, but it only gets to me because our room shares a wall with the lounge and is right by the bathroom. Insanely easy to talk to people though. I’ve heard the all female ones are usually silent.
