unit cap

i know that they cap our units/quarter at 19, but if i want to take 20 units, who do i need to tell? and do i do this before signing up for the class that makes me pass the 19 units or after i sign up?

if u are in honors, just go to the office and tell them and u'll be approve on the same day with no questions asked.

before, even if your not in honors its easy. Just go to the counselor window in Murphy and as long as you have like a 3.0 (not sure exactly) they'll increase it for you right then and there.

I'm guessing you'll probably have to go visit your counselor/advisor and petition for it and if you have a decent GPA they'll approve it.

yah i did it this morning.
first i went to window 1 (took me a while to FIND it, btw -.-) and then since i'm in honors she pointed me to the honors office (like, 5 feet away)
handed the guy my bruincard, he looked me up on the computer and said i was approved.
takes longer to FIND the place than to get approved ;)
(or maybe that's just me...)

o ya if ur in aap, u do that in campbell... save you a walk

I did it today too. It is a min 3.0 overall and in your last quarter.

Just curious: you can only petition up to 21 units right?

ekn111: no, i petitioned to 22 units today

If you are in honors, all you actually have to do is send an email to honors@college.ucla.edu, and tell them how many units and which quarter you want them for. I did it this afternoon and they changed it for me in a few hours. (You need to have a certain GPA though, which you obviously have if you are in honors anyways so not like it matters).

Oh ok...thanks emun. I thought there was a max though...is it 22 then?

alright thanks guys. ill just send an email to honors then.

ekn111: they made a mistake... cuz i just signed up for classes...they increased mine up to 20 units ... but i think when i went, the person helping me, her shift was up, so she couldn't do it herself cuz she was already automatically logged out so she handed it to another lady behind her. they probably misheard me and made a mistake...so i'm going down to murphy tmw to ask to see if i can 22 unit it. the girl at the window helping me didn't say anything about the 21 unit max though. but if it's relaly just 21 units i'll let you know

Alright, thanks.

ekn111:
yea i got it up to 22 units. i think as long as your GPA is 3.0 or above for last quarter, both quarter and cumulative GPA, they'd let you increase it as long as you can handle it.

Thanks for the info emun.
