I still don't get unit caps. I'm at a CCC right now, have been for the entire time, plan to transfer Fall 2011. I'll have between 70-80 units at the end of Fall 2010.

I want to take my major prereqs at UCB this summer. Since those units are not from a CCC, will the 80 unit cap apply to me, preventing me from taking classes Spring and Summer 2011? Or since I've always been full time at CCC, and was just a visitor at UCB, can I transfer with unlimited CCC units?

And I heard somewhere that it doesn't matter how many units you apply with, but once you're enrolled only 70 will transfer over. How does this work? Do the others get dropped from our UC transcript/GPA?

Everything I read on UC transfer sites and this forum seems to contradict each other.

You can transfer up to 70 AP/CCC units. All the rest count for credit, but you don’t get any units. (ex: you have 70 units and take Calc II (5 units). Instead of having 75 units transfer, you only get to transfer 70. However, you can enroll in Calc III at UCB) Any UC-Transferable course, whether or not you have 70 CCC units or 100 CCC units, counts toward your GPA.

What you want to do is try and take your summer courses using your new Student account. That way, you won’t run into the unit cap problem because you’re already enrolled at UC Berkeley.

If you’re worried about the course(s) filling up, you can sign up as a Visitor and a) if you get in, “adjust” them to your new student account or b) if you don’t get in, just drop the course(s) for a full refund minus the deposit.

wow thanks, those are so much more helpful than all of the pamphlets I’ve seen, and that’s really interesting about the personal statement.

seriously I’m about to sue everybody at the counseling office. and the people who print useless information on colored paper and post them all over campus.
