i’m very interested in applying to American University but i’ve heard it’s affiliated with the United Methodist Church. Would the fact that i’m Jewish be a problem if i wanted to apply or would it effect my college experience if i did go here?

AU has lots of Jews and a busy, active Hillel. [American University Hillel - Washington, DC](http://auhillel.com/)

I don’t perceive the University’s UM affiliation to be anything like, say, Notre Dame’s Catholic one. There are scholarships for the children of United Methodist clergy, but the culture of the campus (religiously and ethnically) is pretty pluralistic.

Honestly, if everybody but you was a Methodist, it probably wouldn’t affect your college experience that much. And I’m a Methodist.

Yes, it’s “affiliated” but that doesn’t mean much. They give some nice scholarships to children of United Methodist pastors and the campus chaplain is United Methodist, but that’s about it. My D is one of the scholarship recipients but many of her friends are Jewish and Hillel is, perhaps, more active on campus than the Protestant church group.

Honestly, sometimes I feel like a bit of a minority because I’m NOT Jewish. The affiliation really means nothing – Jewish culture and students are very prevalent at both AU and GWU.
