Okay so I'm doing a really good job in AP American right now...And I think I'd have a 700+ if I took it. But none of my colleges require or ask for SAT IIs, and I don't plan on taking any other SAT IIs, so would taking just this one help my chances at getting in somewhere?

What do you mean by "none of my colleges require" them?
Are you a senior, and have you already applied?
If so, then yes, it would be pointless.

What I meant by my colleges was the ones I'm applying to next year. I'm a junior right now.

Who knows if you are going to change your mind. Even though some colleges may not require you to submit sat ii's, soem colleges say it's optional/recommended. Just take 2, US His plus a subject you are doing well on.

Wow, so no "Ivy League" schools, eh?
Very impressive, I admire your decisiveness.

I withdraw my comment, then.
You should take SATs regardless.
They can only help you (unless you do poorly on them, of course).

I have always wondered that myself. I am not seriously considering applying to any serious places (Duke and that is it because I am instate, valedictorian, blah blah). What would schools think of them? Would they be tipping factors for similar applicants? A tip in favor of the applicant that has great SAT II scores even in school that doesn't mention them in requirements/optionals/recommended?

1, you COULD change your mind as to where you will apply between now and next January. Secondly, it is just possible that the fact that you challenged yourself by taking the SAT IIs and doing well on them MIGHT be a tipping factor. If you think you can score a 700+ on a couple of SAT II take them this Spring while the subject matter is fresh.
